Donald Trump has claimed, “Ukraine hasn’t got the cards”, insinuating a likely Ukrainian defeat. But the Ukraine war is slowly turning in Ukraine’s favor, so why is Trump lying about Ukraine?

After 33 days of non-stop work, I am truly pleased to release this video. It required extensive research, countless hours of script writing, recording, editing, and quality assurance.

If you want the best experience, try watching it on a full-size tv screen, and enjoy the 4K sharpness. And if you want to hear the detailed soundscape, I warmly recommend using headphones.

Thank you to rapper Nite Owl for letting me use his awesome rap song "Money Talks” for the segment about Putin's money problems.

Thank you to electronic pop singer Anita Tatlow for letting me use her gorgeous song “Diamond Skies” for the segment about the women of Afghanistan. If you are on Spotify, I warmly recommend listening to her song right here:

@randahl

...there's no post 1/3 with, presumably, a link to watch!

@randahl

Weird. I can go from 1/3 down to 2/3, but scrolling up from 2/3 goes nowhere!

At least now, in the response to my question, it links up 😁

@deirdrebeth that really is weird. What app are you using? Mastodon's own app, the web, or something else?
@randahl @deirdrebeth Using Pachli on Android everything seems fine.

@randahl

Tusky on Android

@deirdrebeth maybe ask other Tusky users if they experience the same bug. In that case you will know that it is the app.
@randahl "Coward in Chief"! Well put.
@Charlesberkow Thank you Charles. And thank you for watching. 👍
@randahl Very interesting. I've shared it with my Ukrainian friends who have been organizing "Stand with Ukraine" vigils every Saturday for the past 3 years in my city. Thank you for the hard work you've put into this.

@randahl

Way to go, Randahl!

@xs4me2 thank you XS! Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed producing it! 🤗

@randahl

Why is a gangster who lies about everything lying?

@randahl
#alt4you picture of Trump and Zelensky sitting in a room with the words
"You don't have the cards" overlaid and Randahl's avatar superimposed on the left
@slowmart Added. Thank you for reminding me.

@randahl Somebody who manages to bankrupt a casino and then fails to sell its concrete remains should probably talk less about cards and business deals... Reality never stops Narcissists though, save through physical interference.

Slick presentation of a decent analysis. The effort definitely shows. Thanks for putting things in perspective, and in such a concise fashion, too!

@ulfr you are welcome. I am glad you enjoyed it.
@randahl
Well done! 👍🏻
@taatm thank you! I tried so many new ways of editing this — I am in absolute awe of Davinci Resolve and all its new features.

@randahl @taatm

Your statement of Germany not delivering tanks in the first year is a misleading statement. Germany took part to equip former Soviet Block nations now in the NATO with western tanks, so that they in turn were able to deliver a larger number of tanks to Ukraine.

Strictly speaking you were probably correct, but in respect of spirit and efforts not so much.

@silkester you are absolutely right, that there are many more details in the delivery of arms to Ukraine, than I can cover in a few sentences of one chapter of a 20 minute video.

But I hope we can agree, that Germany had more political foot dragging and longer political discussions than countries like Poland or the three Baltic countries.

I am not trying to knock down Germany in particular. I am just illustrating how our Ukraine support has not been perfect all the way.

@taatm

@randahl @taatm

Not without reasons. Germany still has to tread lightly because of its history 7 decades later. You can feel the unease growing since Trump went full Shitler and #fckAfd is gaining more support than it ever should.

Germany's dependence on Russian gas was economy crippling at the time of the invasion. Those billions of support for Ukraine now are possible, because Germany didn't cripple itself in 2022.

All of Europe was in peace mode at the time and it took adjustment.

@silkester
I mostly agree with you but measured in Ukrainian dead, all of Europe is too slow and not enough. Everything else is just an excuse.

@randahl

@taatm @randahl

In those early days it was a US go fix this attitude, which had been the US favored policy and EU was happy with it.
Since Trump stopped this attitude for good, EU stepped up. I.e, Ukraine has drones from Germany's arms development, even the Bundeswehr hasn't received them.
That tank exchange program wasn't just because the West wasn't willing, it was a question of combat readiness. Me (= mostly military ignorant) still understand that speed is a factor in military response.

@taatm @silkester @randahl but maybe also a valid excuse none the less? In Germany the political debate is very comlex, there are a lot of voters who fall for Friedensbewegung (left populism) basically saying, that we need to stay out of any military conflict. And this divide of opinion divedes the SPD votership. Just to explain why this was so hard for Scholz to handle. (He did a lot to help Ukraine, that was actually not very much communicated, to not disturb this wing of the SPD vortership)

@cwillmes

Trauma is not an excuse. Born 1960s German — I can assure you the trauma of the war in my grandparents and my parents was very real.
2nd-ary trauma is just as real.

German memorial culture of the Holocaust and getting reminders from the world that we started not one but two WW affects the psyche.

It isn't just Bush-US red alert, orange alert red alert political theater after 9/11. 9/11 was traumatic — don't get me wrong — but Bush took cold-hearted advantage.

@taatm @randahl

@silkester @taatm @randahl to be clear, I do not excuse this, just explained the situation Scholz had to handle. I am very much in favor to support the Ukraine much more.

@cwillmes

So am I (I want to see the deoccupation of Ukraine, all of Ukraine), and yet it scars the shit out of me. not because I think Germany would be morally to blame if it puts boots on Ukraine soil (like in Zelensky's suggestion) to help and coincidentally if/when(?) this war changes like the US openly changes sides, attacks Greenland and puts troops on Taiwan, thus provokes China, ... wawooom! Mushrooms.

@taatm @randahl

@taatm

Having hardware not being able to use it properly doesn't really help. As I understand it, Ukraine soldiers entered training programs that have been come to full fruition recently.

I can't tell if Ukraine could have figured it out on their own. I assume not. Plus Western equipment still has to be adapted to Ukraine military stuff.

So it is way more complicated than media painted this.

@randahl

@randahl @silkester @taatm FWIW, as a German, I am with you there.
@randahl
Agree, it's slight, but Ukraine is managing (just) to make Russia pay an unacceptably high price for gains. They seem to be (just) on course to pull off a Finland style defence

@randahl

If (big if) trump was a serious president he would be condemning putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine and demanding that putin withdraws his troops and ceased hostilities.

Makes you wonder who trump is really working for..

#putintrump #traitortrump

@Captain_Jack_Sparrow @randahl Hanlon's Razor applies.
I suppose he's working for his ego. Quite a bitchy employer, it seems.

@randahl And Trump has Uno cards in a game of Poker and he thinks he's winning so much!

Every time he uses the cards comment he's so fucking cringe because he thinks he's world's best negotiator. He's a narssicisstic moron.

Uh oh I'll end the war in 1 week or whatever he was vomiting out of his filthy mouth. It's 4 months and he has done fucking nothing than just praise Putin. Idiot.

@randahl Make sense that Putin is trying to step up in the war, if his liquid is running out soon...hope faster than predicted.
Great analysis on YouTube 👍
@randahl always outdoing yourself. Informative and more engaging as usual! Kudos for the 4K format but more important… where do you get those shirts? They look awesome, i want one :)

@kikeriffs thank you Carlitos. Glad you liked it.

Well, I have actually been filming in 4K for a while, but I have become much better at using it properly. It is finally at a point where it looks ultrasharp even on a big 4K tv.

What helped me the most was, I bought a better camera lens (f/1.4). That was like opening a door to another world.

PS: The shirt is an Olymp Luxor Dynamic Flex Jersey. Their stretch fabric is extremely comfy. Not sponsored — I just genuinely love their shirts.

@randahl
Great analysis and good to see things from another perspective! Thanks!
@Johan_Barelds glad you liked it Johan.

Very important!

@elCelio very true. It is coming, I just needed a rest before continuing the work. 🙂
@randahl Enjoyed it Randahl but a bit confused as we are always hearing Ukraine is running out of ammunition and Europe can't supply enough therefore Putin will win. You seem to think otherwise.

@ColinW It is true, that Ukraine was lacking artillery shells, but in May last year, Ukraine gave a statement about it being solved.

https://kyivindependent.com/zelensky-progress-made-on-artillery-shortage/

Zelensky: No reports of artillery shortages for first time in full-scale war

Over the winter months, Ukraine's armed forces suffered a "critical" shortage of artillery shells, in large part due to delays in U.S. military aid.

The Kyiv Independent
@randahl maybe it's for #trump hasn't been greatful enough to #France for giving #USA their freedom from #UK 😜
@randahl Trump would lose at 52 pick up.
