Is anyone able to lay their hands on a firmware image for a Samsung Ubigate IBG1004?

It’s an #isdn to #sip #telephone gateway, and the one I’ve got seems to be corrupt and won’t decompress.

My usual haunts for firmware images are coming up blank.

The filename will be something like `iBG1004_Advanced_1.6.1.9.Z` - but I'm really not too fussy about the version number!

Please boost if you think you have followers that can help!

Looks like they’re only £20-30 on eBay, so I’ve opted to take the technology connections approach, and try to obtain the firmware through “the magic of buying two of them”

Of course there’s a non-zero chance the second one will also have a fault, but there is also the chance that I’ll be able to make two working ones

For anyone following along at home, the second Samsung Ubigate IBG1004 SIP to ISDN gateway behaves exactly the same as the first one.

It's got a different firmware image, but it still fails to unpack it and boot.

Two units from different sellers with the same fault seems suspicious... am I just doing this wrong?!

This was supposed to be a quick/cheap fix to get an ISDN PBX talking to my other phone systems, not a major mission!

Perhaps I should just throw money at it and do it with cisco kit

@lpbkdotnet is it trying to fetch something via network maybe? Or expecting special DHCP answers? Just thinking out loud here

@PE4KH good thoughts - but it fails far too early.

This is the boot process as described by the docs.

It's failing at the "The boot image then continues with the necessary initialization, decompresses, and moves itself to RAM" stage

So this should be well before it even knows about the network.

My next suspects (to be investigated this evening) are the ram, and to see if there are any batteries on the board...

@lpbkdotnet Merlins do isdn
@lpbkdotnet also if you want the swiss army knife of telephony, Adtran 908e (or 924 if you want 24 fxs ports as well as 4 t1/pri.

@orion3311 Unfortunately Adtran kit is almost non existent this side of the pond... a shame, because I don't get to play with their channelbanks!

I assume by "Merlin" you mean the AT&T Merlin... I think that might have been badged "nortel meridian" over here (possibly)

However: solving the problem of "add a new phone system to the collection" by "adding two phone systems to the collection" seems avoidable!

I've got a spare cisco chassis, I just need a VIC-2BRI-NT and PVDM to go in it

@lpbkdotnet I don't know if I'm any help, but I love the idea of reviving #isdn hardware
@lpbkdotnet I have no idea, but from photos, there's an SD card in the device, so someone who has a usable hardware may be able to copy off the firmware file?

@lpbkdotnet This blog post seems to have a file listing about half way down, maybe it's possible to contact the author and get a copy?

So long, home T1 line; hello, hacking the T1 router

Floodgap has had a T1 line since I moved into this house in 2011. I'm one of those weirdos who runs my own hardware and prefers to avoid ...

@lpbkdotnet Never seen a Samsung one, only Patton and Audiocodes.
