And more importantly, out of reach for German courts. A man I know got food sent from home to Sachsenhausen, after red-cross intervention. Just a single cookie or something, but still. Mail-service to Auschwitz was non-existant.

@hakona @Giliell @lisagetspolitik German courts had ceased operating independently by March 1933. That is well before the opening of the extermination camps. Also, Germans were way more complicit in the extermination of Jews, LGBTQ folk, Roma and Sinti, disabled people, Jehovah's Witnesses, any political dissenters etc. than you give them credit for. The first concentration camps were on German territory within eyesight of Germans.

Yes, but they kept up a show. It's what ultimately saved my great grandma. If you got sentenced they would release you from prison just to be picked up by the Gestapo outside.
