@hakona @Giliell @lisagetspolitik German courts had ceased operating independently by March 1933. That is well before the opening of the extermination camps. Also, Germans were way more complicit in the extermination of Jews, LGBTQ folk, Roma and Sinti, disabled people, Jehovah's Witnesses, any political dissenters etc. than you give them credit for. The first concentration camps were on German territory within eyesight of Germans.

@Giliell @lisagetspolitik honestly, I still don't quite get the point. By the time that the camps were created in Poland, Germany was riddled with them, too. There was no way of not knowing why full trains only ever travelled in one direction, regardless of the destination. Our families knew exactly what was going on.

Wir hatten sogar ein "Außenlager" für ungefähr 30 Menschen im Nachbardorf. Die gab's praktisch überall in der Art. Buchenwald schickte regelmäßig Gefangene nach Weimar und die Umgebung um dort öffentlich Zwangsarbeit zu verrichten. Im großen und ganzen war's der Bevölkerung egal. Bis zu dem Zeitpunkt als die Alliierten kamen. Erst dann wollte man nichts gewusst haben.
