* former resident: great coastal city
* excellent universities, culture (food; music; diversity, e.g.1980's influx of Buddhists)
* scenic beauty; tourism; festivals; fishing
* historical importance: e.g. WWII convoy staging

Urban sugaring a success for one Haligonian, but city not so sweet on idea | CBC News

A Halifax man produced two litres of syrup from a maple on his property and another on the city's property. But the city says it can damage trees.

CBC

@persagen The guy moved up from NYC, learned to tap the trees from Youtube, the one next to the street isn't even his tree, and cutting through the protective bark is potentially harmful to the tree, about which he seems pretty ignorant. " trees planted between the sidewalk and road already face stressors, such as poor soil conditions, salt from the road and the coast, pollution and heat from the asphalt in the summer."

Halifax is the city of trees, is glorious for that, and you don't want...

@persagen ...weakened trees during the occasional hurricane. He's not paying for the tree to be cared for, so I can understand why he would be ticking folk off.
@CStamp Awesome points (always)! 🙏 💚 Halifax
@persagen I'm suddenly missing Halifax. It's such a beautiful city, though it has changed a lot.
