🌿✨ Gleaning Garden Update! ✨🌿

Both my transplants and seedlings are thriving out here! One of my three blueberry bushes has already set fruit, and a second is starting to. I staggered the varieties for early, mid, and late-season crops so there’s something sweet all through the season 🍇🍓

The strawberries companion-planted with them are loving it too, alongside sage and chives in their little blueberry guild. It’s amazing to watch how fast established pairings kick off —

the blueberry planted with the chives seems ahead of schedule like it’s trying to be an early crop instead of mid-season. Synergy in action. ✨

I paired petunias with tulips because petunias tolerate everything, and while the tulips have an aphid situation, the pests haven’t spread beyond them. Holding off on treatment for now while I observe — one of the perks of a diverse, companion-planted space is how pests often stay loyal to one host plant. 🌸🦟

The blackberries struggled a bit after transplanting, but a couple are holding strong 💪. Their guild includes spinach, hyacinth, and some seeded chives. Meanwhile, the lemon tree guild is popping with narcissus, nasturtiums, sage, and lavender seedlings just breaking through 🌿🍋

On a whim, I tossed beefsteak tomato seeds in with okra, chives, thyme, parsley, and dill. I’m not sure what’ll happen, but half the fun is experimenting! 😄

A grapevine is starting to stretch up its metal trellis, keeping company with sweet peas and chives. I also have asparagus doing its thing in a container with thyme, and a basil quartet holding court in another.

Observing how companion planting seems to accelerate growth and localize pests is one of my favorite things about gardening this way. It’s like watching tiny ecosystems form in real time. 🌱💚
