This week's Disquiet Junto had us choose a popular work (I picked Claire de Lune) and sort its notes by name and length.

My daddy didn't raise me to do math on paper, so I turned to Ruby and wrote a little script to manipulate the MIDI. It was easy & a lot of fun. (I link to the Ruby script in the track description.)

The piece came out sounding like a “variations on a theme” thing. Overall pleasant and listenable.

The Lunar Sort (Variations on Claire de Lune) (disquiet0693)

Disquiet Junto's 693rd prompt instructed us to sort a well-known melody by note and duration. I chose "Claire de Lune" as my source material. I don't read sheet music and my father didn't raise me to

In terms of instrumentation, I kept things fun and simple: Yamama digital piano supported by pads and accents courtesy of a vintage Korg M3R.

(I have a soft spot for the M3R because my first digital synth back in 1990 or so was an M1.)
