Public Enemy released Fear of a Black Planet today (April 10) in 1990. 35 years later, 911 is still a joke and there's still a fuck-ton of power to fight

@jake4480 All I know is that as a white fourteen year-old kid, it scared the crap out of my parents, so therefore it was cool. And, that was before the laws to do with sampling changed.
@VE3RWJ ha! LOTS of sampling and such on this one! I was bigger on Apocalypse 91 and then later with Paris - but this one is so great. Gotta freak out those parents. Me, it was nine inch nails. But my dad notoriously HATES rap of any kind, and I've always listened to a bunch. Not even (only) out of spite, I just like it haha
@jake4480 Oh I liked it too, and damn, Chuck's voice is unmatched, still!
@VE3RWJ right?? SO influential. I've loved seeing their evolution, I could go for a new one by them. Even loved their last couple. Saw a photo recently of Kendrick sitting with Chuck D and it just warms the heart to see the new generation getting on so well with the previous ones haha
@jake4480 I heard that Chuck and Flav went out to help after the LA fires... imagine looking around a devastated appocalyptic landscape, the air poisonous, and Flavour Flav shows up? Something about that is just so fucking hilarious.
@VE3RWJ woww yeah! haha I hadn't heard that, but it makes sense. They're solid dudes. Flav has had some drama but I think at his heart, he's decent.
@jake4480 Listening to Fear of a Black Plannet right now, I'm struck by all the "ear candy". so many little sonic things to fixate on and try to identify... like Kendrick. Kendrick is big on all the tiny details too.
@VE3RWJ right?? Me too! I've had it on for a bit now, I'm on track 13, a little over halfway? What a RECORD I mean.. it's wonderful haha
@VE3RWJ saying SO MANY important things, even about women, you don't hear this in much other rap. Which is a shame. Not to say I don't like a lot of the harder gangsta stuff and there's room for both but I love positive stuff too, this led to Talib Kweli, Common, the Roots, etc. And all the other great stuff today, MIKE, etc.
@jake4480 I prefer the movie soundtrack version of "Fight the Power" ... sax solo by Branford Marsalis
@jake4480 Welcome to the Terrordome is still one of the most timeless classics, while still creating a groove that is unique and kind of impossible back in the day of limited sampler memory.

@KCDOZ SO true. They were and still are masters. I even like a bunch of the newer stuff, it's different but man, those boys are talented.

We recently saw an awards show of some kind (I dunno, I don't follow them) but we were over at my wife's parents house, and I got to experience real-time my mother in law suffering through listening to a BADASS PE performance on that show (she was NOT a fan hahaha)
