On 8 April 2013, former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher, died of a stroke at the Ritz Hotel, London, at the age of 87.

And that day is today. You may dance a merry jig and drink a small beer, good citizens of England xx

@patrickhadfield @Geri
Brilliant song.

@Sarahw @patrickhadfield never heard it before, not being a big fan of Elvis, but its agitated pop is wonderful.

He's a 'tricksy' lyricsist

Thank you, Patrick xx

@Geri @Sarahw I love his lyrics - I would say "clever" - but I know what you mean! ;)
@Geri feels like her ghost is still a-haunting.....
@Geri ding dong

@rayres my good friend @patrickhadfield had already mentioned this tune xx
@Geri @patrickhadfield ah - fediverse and its non-deterministic reply arrival times

@rayres @Geri I wanted to post that one, but I guess I’ll have to go for this classic instead:

Put a stake through her heart and garlic ’round her neck, to make sure she’ never come’ back!Isn’t that a pretty horrible thing to say, when her funeral is going on right now?Too bad! TOO bad!

@Geri What about Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland? (actually, she almost became a casualty of The Troubles, also at a hotel)

@Geri I celebrated by rushing out to get a pint safe in the knowledge that the Milk Snatcher was no more.
@gmh I'm a vegan but I take your point xx
@Geri in 1984 i almost cried when i heard she nearly died in the brighton bombing. in 2013 i almost laughed when i heard of her demise. what changed in the years between… not her, but me. i left NI to go to University, where i met people who taught me to think for myself, and made friends with many who did not judge me for my ignorance. what i learned from them is worth more to me than what i learned from academic achievement. this is why i believe in free higher education.
@jpaulgibson she caused the deaths of 1,000s of people English and Argentinians
@Geri I pissed on her grave once. 😊
@JoeGrowling good man, I think there are bars around it now. No matter the kegel exercises, I could never get any accuracy lool 🤣
@Geri @JoeGrowling they need to put a big rock on the grave to ensure she stays in it.

@X31Andy @Geri @JoeGrowling

Billy Bragg was a regular where I worked in West Dorset. When she died he said "I've made an offer to Conservative HQ to conduct the funeral service personally. By her own doctrine they should be bound to accept the lowest bid, so I've said I'll do it for a fiver. I'll even throw in the cardboard box"

@JoeGrowling oh, where is this? Never mind the wee, I think acid dissolves concrete? Xx

@Geri What's it good for to spit on the dead. She did have moments she deserves be celebrated for. When I, just a couple of years ago, first heard and saw her speech at the UN assembly in 1989, I didn't believe my ears and eyes.
"It is life itself—human life, the innumerable species of our planet—that we wantonly destroy. It is life itself that we must battle to preserve."

@martinrust you write your post. I'll write mine, love. 1,000s died because of her
@Geri damn. A lot of people who die from strokes don’t suffer before they pass, it’s just “lights out” before the forever nap. I guess there is no god after all.😕
@Geri Thatcher and Reagan had a child and it was called Trump
@Geri Fuck that dead crow. Glad she’s dead. Too bad President Trump and his band of defective mutants haven’t joined her in Hell yet.
@Geri
Still dead 😁
@Geri It was an early 40th prezzie for me 😆
@Geri Felicitations to our English cousins! And I’d suggest, if I may, that a fair few non-English people might wish to join in the merry jig.
@marcas 💃
@Geri If I might be permitted to lapse into the native language my family assiduously forgot five or so generations back: Dár comrádaithe Sasanacha, is do gach duine atá meas aige air féin, lá saortha ón cailleach sona daoibh!
@marcas erm. ....
@Geri Oh, alright: "Happy Liberation From The Witch Day to you, our English comrades and everybody with any self-respect". An ndéanfaidh sé sin an jab?

@Geri I already have daydreams of doing a Frank Underwood on Trump's forgotten grave.
@Geri Fun Boy Three wrote a song about Thatcher: "The Lunatics Have Taken Over the Aslyum."
@Geri She was a conservative cow, a reaganesk and trumpesk moron and a very bad prime minister. But as of her abdication there have been 'leaders' in the UK that have done so much worse than her. John Major, David Cameron, to name a few. And wasps that still buzz around the hive's entrance: Farage, the bootlicker.
