@jeffjarvis I have many American friends, from the time I lived and worked in Boston. But today America should hang its head in shame. Either that, or stand up and insist the carrot head be removed from office. This is #Brexit but in a far larger scale. The greatest act of self-harm the world has ever seen.

As a German I feel with you. I'm removed generations from Nazi Germany — born in the 60s. It is with mixed feelings to get Germany's past thrown in your face every day with the current sins of the US.

But if Germany's past as the ultimate baddies helps prevent some of the atrocities in this world, I'm good with it.

@silkester @jeffjarvis I can only imagine how hard that must be. I truly hope this country can snap out of it before it comes to that. If we do, it will be in no small part because of Germany's very impressive reckoning with its own past.

If we don't, I guess Americans will be in your situation in a few decades.

@Tenor2JT Oh yeah, we'll have a fully authoritarian regime in a few months if we're not careful. We likely already do. I meant a few decades before America has grappled with the really awful things we did.

Oh wait...the really awful things we will have done MOST RECENTLY.
