Today is International Fact- Checking Day βœ”οΈ

Independent fact-checking is more important than ever.

Critical thinking and responsible sharing are our strongest moves to counter false claims online.

Before you share:
βœ… Is it from a reliable source?
πŸ” Can it be verified elsewhere?
πŸ“’ Is it informing or manipulating?

@EUCommission

Every day should be β€œfact-check day”

@EUCommission How can we fact-check that the domain "europe.eu" is the official one?
@tadd @EUCommission ... because Europe wouldn't give europe.EU to anybody else for obv reasons?
@thibaultmol @EUCommission I think that would be circular reasoning, since it relies on "Europe" being legitimate first :)

@tadd prego!

btw I've seen you're a fellow Rubyist!

@wildeng Yes, I'm a RubyistπŸ’Ž I'll be on stage the week after next https://rubykaigi.org/2025/presentations/rubylangorg.html#day3

RubyKaigi
@tadd Fabulous! RubyKaigi is on my list since ages :) One day I'll be able to make it.
Have fun and thanks for all the beautiful work done to make Ruby so wonderful!
@wildeng Oh you know the Kaigi! I'm really glad to hear that. I would definitely recommend it not only as a Rubyist but also as a Japanese.
Even for those of us who have lived in Japan all our lives, RubyKaigi is a great event to learn about the charms of local cities. I am sure that people from abroad will also love it.
See you someday in Japan! πŸ˜‰
@tadd I hope so! I grew up in Italy and from late 70s my generation has being heavily influenced by Japanese pop culture, especially manga, anime - probably my favourite one is Takahashi Rumiko - and videogames and lately we discovered writers and music - I was listening to BoΓΈwy for example - so definitely a well loved country in Italy πŸ˜„
@tadd @EUCommission It's "europa.eu". You can try to look it up in other sources and see if it matches.
@elgregor @EUCommission I agree that "look it up in other sources and see if it matches" is essentially important point.
@EUCommission checked: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fact-checking : The holiday is held on April 2 because "April 1 is a day for fools. April 2 is a day for facts."

* Is my source only allowed to tell me exactly what I want to hear?

@EUCommission You emphasized fact-checking, so I’d like to ask: Is Europe really allowing Netanyahu to visit? If so, what does this mean for the EU's stance on international justice?
@EUCommission checking any statement requires 10x the effort of making the statement. Social media channels should be held to account if they facilitate the dissemination of false or misleading information.

@EUCommission

As a second thought after April 1:st?
