Democrats take note

Senator Cory Booker is demonstrating remarkable courage, holding the Senate floor overnight in a marathon filibuster speech to protest the current administration’s policies

Join him. All of you.

You can even get out the Dr. Seuss books if you need to

@flexghost someone needs to get up in Congress and just start reading 1984
@flexghost Cory Booker is one of the most thoughtful, and caring people I’ve ever heard speak…
LIVE: Cory Booker sets record for longest Senate floor speech

YouTube
@flexghost As far as I'm concerned, Sen Booker is the new leader of the Senate Democratic Party. Schumer, step aside.
@flexghost About 47,000 people streaming on Youtube, almost double what it was this morning when I started watching. And it's available on other streams. Lots of people getting this strong message.
@jab01701mid I don’t have a lot of the other social media that I read secondhand accounts there are similar numbers streaming live there as well
@flexghost By the time Sen Booker was done, I had seen > 150,000 active viewers, just on this YouTube feed. It's clearly made an impact !
@jab01701mid this dude literally saved people from a burning building while he was just casually walking on the street one day I have always loved him
@flexghost @jab01701mid I heard an interview with Booker on NPR years ago. He was not yet elected to Mayor yet, as I recall. At that time he was living in public housing and had hot water in his building only for the previous six months. Imagine that: an aspiring elected official living in public housing with no hot water. That story stayed with me.
@flexghost
It's not courage, it's his fucking job. It's every democratic representatives duty and oath. Where are the rest of the pussies.

@GatekeepKen @flexghost wow.

Just .. wow.

"It's not courage."

I'm screenshotting this so when my new Canadian neighbors ask me how America could fall to fascism I have something to show them.

@flexghost I was thinking the Communist Manifesto, but sure, Dr. Seuss works too.
@flexghost The 46 other Dems in the Senate need to line up behind him before he collapses. And then just keep the filibuster going for a few more weeks.
@flexghost I mean, clearly the Democrats still need time to get their shit together and focus on a plan of action that is not 100 percent reactionary. Maybe keeping a filibuster going is just what they need to help focus their attention on the urgency.
@briankrebs they do need to get their shit together and they need to get rid of all dinosaur who just kept the same machine going for decades while we were screaming at them that they barely scraped by because other people are saving democracy while they take the credit… However this is something and he has the spotlight and can do something with it
What's the reason a few more weeks is enough?
@kasperd @flexghost idk. but in the absence of a plan, stalling the administration from doing anything legislatively would be a good idea.
@flexghost THIS is the next Dem leader of the Senate
@thecampbell if people were sensible he should’ve been a front runner for the head of the entire Democratic Party long ago
@flexghost Reading Dr. Seuss would be wrong here. He's not just wasting time. He's reading the history of the moment into the record. He's spelling out in detail every damn thing the adminstration is doing to hurt us. This, by itself, is not going to stop anything directly, and that's not the point. It's the first step: recognizing that this is a crisis and calling on his colleagues to act accordingly.

@flexghost Sen Booker is reading letters from his constituents & other citizens instead of Green Eggs and Ham. I like that the other Democratic Senators are asking him to yield for questions so that he doesn't have to speak all the time & can get a little break.

This is the real life "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" (although I wouldn't be surprised if Frank Capra would have supported Trmp since Capra was a lifelong Republican).

@gmoke people in Trump counties as well
@flexghost
I like that he and his colleagues haven't resorted to reading Green Eggs & Ham, they have stayed remarkably on-message and focused.
@forpeterssake we have a wealth of Dr. Seuss to help us save democracy if we need to go there
@flexghost a lot of Dr Seuss books are even anti authoritarian or pro environmental. The Lorax would be fully on topic.
