Mentioned this over on Bluesky but in case you're here and not there...

Every Californian with an email address and an internet connection can now visit California’s Bookshelf and access more than 300,000 ebooks and audiobooks via the Palace Project app. Linked PDF describes the program.

@jessamyn I chose not to use Bluesky so I do appreciate your posting on the only decentralized and non commercial social network. Thanks :)
@Greguti Yep, they both work for me for different reasons but I definitely use Masto for my more personal content.
@jessamyn Thank you for this. I sent it to my mother, who moved to CA a couple of years ago, and she didn't know about it, yet. Now she does, by way of a Vermont librarian. <3 I'm committing this year to being more involved with my library.
@jessamyn Do you happen to know whether they might plan to add exact-match or advanced searching? Adding quotes doesn't help find exact matches and using first and last names seems to work as an OR operator, and searches include descriptions as well as AU/TI so if e.g. a character shares a first or last name with your sought author, it will show up in results. My test searches have been very frustrating.
@jmccyoung Unfortunately I don't know, I am not actually a librarian in California I was just very excited about the project.
@jessamyn ...this is fantastic! I'm not in CA, but wish I was!!
