Finally got to play my first #FourAgainstDarkness game, what a mess, I forgot to add defense bonuses for shield and armor but still managed to get out of the dungeon with most of the party alive — only the rogue died. Being a stickler I started from scratch trying to better follow the rules for the next game, the results? I failed to save versus a Medusa's gaze and my whole party perished...

Here's the 2nd dungeon, I didn't have graph paper so I draw my dungeon using a website ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This was way more fun than I anticipated, I honestly thought that playing this stuff by myself was going to be sad (LOL) but it wasn't, in fact the time flew — first game was around one hour and half.

I already got a graph paper notebook, I'll play this thing until I get sick of it, LOL.

I don't think the book is well edited, there's a lot of stuff that is 1) up for interpretation, or 2) straight up unclear, but I'm not gonna hold that against the game, I think it's a good introduction to #TTRPG, someone even said Four Against Darkness is more like a board game and I have to agree.
@maxalmonte14 you're lucky you missed out on 3) straight up contradictory. 😅
Not saying all TTRPG rulebooks are like that, but I ran across some things that were described in a half sentence in multiple places.
I'm actually not even convinced that's a bad thing. It's super confusing at first, but part of the fun is making your own house rules. I like making a ruling and figuring out "good enough". I find that even helps me in real life. 😅

I am so glad it is not just me! 😅

I recently got interested in solo rpgs and read a few rule books, among them "Four Against Darkness". And at least for the moment, I completely bounced off of it, due to the "structure" (lack thereof) and contradictions in the rules.

But I am still interested in it, and will try it out at least once at some point!

@duke_of_germany @irgndsondepp I played a couple of games and it's honestly pretty fun, but having to jump from page to page, and then to some random web forum just to check how things are really supposed to play out it's annoying, so I haven't played in a couple of months. What other books have you seen so far? I heard D100 Dungeon (I think that's the correct name) is pretty good.

That's my reasoning: it *has* to be good, since so many people put in the effort to make the rules work for them! So I will be going back to it at some point! 🙂

Other books related to #SoloRPG I have read so far:
- "Mythic GME 2nd Edition" by @TanaPigeonWMG
- "Solo Game Master's Guide" by Geek Gamers

(Both highly recommended!)

Currently, I am reading the rules to "Ironsworn".

I will write proper reviews about them all at some point! 🙂

You might also look at Loner from Zotiquest (Robero Bisceglie). I only play solo and it is a core resource for me. #YMMV #SoloRPG
@duke_of_germany @TanaPigeonWMG @irgndsondepp thanks for the recommendations Mr. Duke — or should I say "Your Highness"? — I'll check them both out.
