@Daojoan I like to think some people mean "why are there so many shamelessly extreme right-wing people now?"
Most of the time, however, it's as the op says
@darwinwoodka @EndicottAuthor @Daojoan
We have a clear timeline from the Watergate scandal of 1972 to the iran Contra affair 1981 over to Bush Jr. WMD's that didn't exists to todays Trump administration.
The Republicans wiped their asses with the Law since half a century now and now that this gets a bit of a pushback its very divisive.
Is this factual, or do I just want it to be factual?
I think 'big tent' parties really are kicking some parts of the population out, chasing them out because they are not 'pure' enough. I believe the process of voter suppression - happening in several members of the G7, not just one - is a method of division.
I do not think any of this is new. But it does seem, to me, to be more blatant and public, now.
@Daojoan I have to respectfully disagee.
I believe people feels divisive is the result of bad political communication that's too rigid.
For example, issues relating inclusivity.
In my country, people that don't want to be around other ethnics or religion are not demonized.
Instead we always trying to learn that an individual or groups might have cultural or historical background that lead to a situation, some even result of misinformation or simply a minimal interaction between groups.
@Daojoan
By recognizing this, we can choose a better message and solution to fix the problem instantly without anyone feeling "divisive" or "forced."
This also applied to issues like nature, disabilities awareness, gender equality, and other stuff.
My country is not perfect, but when it works, people are working together to solve the issues.
Also, I had one racist friend that's now accepting everyone with this approach :))
@techpengu @Daojoan besides maybe a few randoms nobody is demonising anyone who just happens not to hang out with people from different groups, that'd be silly.
Who ‘we’ are ‘demonising’ are people who ‘don't want to be around them’ and so ban, say, Muslims entering the area, or kick everyone who isn't white out the town at subset, or want trans people to never show their face in public. They not only don't interact with people different from them, they want to make sure they never have to.
@Daojoan umm
Some of us mean "I liked it when I could disagree with someone on the right without worrying that they were going to try to murder my family"
I legitimately don't know what you're talking about
@hydropsyche @Daojoan you seem determined to lash out at someone - and lashing out at someone who agrees with you and is on your side is so much easier than lashing out at the people doing harm.
I will pass. I hope you learn better focus on the future.
Also, they were comfortable when everyone they knew agreed with them. This happens in a cult.
@Daojoan tbf, I also think that everything is more political now. What I mean by that is they were ALWAYS political to an extent but the average person barely thought about politics that much. Now we can't have a Wolfenstein game release without it being called political because it kills nazis, like ... it's been that way since 1992?
Also I think many series can't even be made today without controversies. Like Avatar (the animation) would be decried too political if released today
