looking into getting an emotional support pmOS device. any suggestions?

right now it's looking like a oneplus 6/6t or a pinephone. hard to tell what might work well without actually testing it myself though
@kookie64 OnePlus 6/6T is going to be a much more usable experience. Even the PinePhone Pro is feeling seriously underpowered these days. The PinePhones (and the Librem 5 for that matter) are built on very old platforms at this point and suffer from slow performance, lack of modern GPU APIs (OpenGL 4.x and Vulkan), excessive heat, and poor battery life. I have quite a few pmOS devices and my daily (though not my daily phone, I have a OnePlus 6 with Android) is the OnePlus 6T.

@kookie64

My rankings:

1. OnePlus 6T (oneplus-fajita) - Best overall support, performance, and usability

2. Xiaomi Poco F1 (xiaomi-beryllium) - Close to OP6T, same SoC, but WiFi has issues and mine has camera issues (may be specific to my unit)

3. Google Pixel 3a (google-sargo) - Weaker SoC, but well supported, has headphone jack, decent battery life

4. PinePhone Pro - Outdated, slow, but still pretty usable

5. PinePhone - Very outdated, very slow, on latest pmOS edge it is rough

@CalcProgrammer1 thanks for the info. do you know if it's possible to dual-boot off of an sd card for any of these devices? i guessed as much glancing at the wiki, but not sure how that would work in practice
@kookie64 @CalcProgrammer1 the op6t has call-issues (see e.g. https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/3320), so if you need the device actually for calling, you should better go for nr. 2 or 3
