Have you ever encountered VLC unable to play a .mkv file when your machine is plugged into hdmi? I have this .mkv file that will play fine on my MacBook screen, but if I plug an hdmi cable into my MacBook to output to a projector, VLC just shows a black screen, even after restarting VLC.

Thankfully I was able to get what I wanted playing over the projector from a different source and in a different format but I'm still really confused. #VLC #mkv #hdmi #tech #VideoFormats #codecs #mac

@BasementDweller3000 Weird. Have you tried wiping out your VLC preferences? You can do this quickly in the terminal with: defaults delete org.videolan.vlc or just trash the whole org.videolan.vlc preferences folder. If that doesn’t work, try turning off hardware decoding in the VLC player.

Maybe that’ll help.
