@poemproducer It absolutely can be tracked? There's an entire community that watches the airwaves and isolates/triangulates unknown transmitters. It's one of the most trackable forms of media, and with software-defined radios, cheap to snoop on.
I guess they're thinking only
of receivers, which are harder to track; but every antenna is both a transmitter and receiver...
@poemproducer Pirate radio works anytime people are listening to the radio and either scanning for stations or looking for a known pirate station.
I ran WSQT Guerrilla Radio in DC from late 2003 until 2013 so I kmow this well.
One of my pet theories is that radio will make a comeback in a big way. The newest warfront is the cyber-front, and eventually no internet-connected device will be able to escape internet electronic warfare. War won't just be bombing the enemy, it will be hacking the enemy and disabling the enemy's productive and commercial capacity. When this happens, there will be no choice but to switch back to radio.
