Zuck said Meta is in a "partnership" with White House; Google is following suit. They are all that stand between you and Trump admin data grabs.

Law enforcement requests for user data from Apple, Google, and Meta mean Big tech can decide whether US authorities have access to your personal info, like location data.

Meanwhile, Europeans are starting to see US data services as “no longer safe”

Here's a resource collection of non-US services, and more:

How to Avoid US-Based Digital Services—and Why You Might Want To

Amid growing concerns over Big Tech firms aligning with Trump administration policies, people are starting to move their digital lives to services based overseas. Here's what you need to know.

@violetblue I think maybe Americans, living in America, should also question the safety of using US data services.
@xinit
Many of us have been doing that for years.
@violetblue @kerfuffle
@infosec812 I think people in infosec have few valid excuses at this point. It's the other 90%+ of the people that need to be convinced.
@violetblue @kerfuffle
@violetblue weren’t they basically already doing that though? I feel like I remember a ton of stories about tech companies basically letting law enforcement access their data without a warrant for years now, what’s changed?

@greenpepper22 @violetblue

It's no longer "basically".

Plus on the EU-side there was a lot of trust put on private assurances that private data wasn't used by US-interests.

Even though there are stories going back decides how US intelligence services have stolen EU company secrets and given to local enterprises.

@violetblue I work in IT in Canada for a NFP. Non-US data residency has been a strong preference for all services for a while. Patriot act and all that. Now it’s mandatory - it’s the first question for any potential vendor and breaks more deals than I can count.
@violetblue Deleted 10 years of gmail. Moved to Proton.
@violetblue I've started promoting the idea that any so-called "social" media that resides on servers that are owned by corporations with publicly held stock should be abandoned by individuals. Full stop.
@violetblue This raises serious questions about privacy and who really controls our data. Big Tech acting as the gatekeeper between users and government surveillance is unsettling especially when trust in them is already shaky. Do you think people will actually move to non-US services, or is convenience still king?
@violetblue
Thank you for your post it was very insightful concerning what's going on with data collection.
@violetblue Meanwhile, ground has already broken in the hypocritical country of Norway for Google. Stop this planet, I'm done.
@violetblue I've ditched all of that over a decade ago. I've sensed they are rotten even back then.

@violetblue
Or cut to the chase with this list.

@violetblue that’s all true but this has been true for decades. So on the one hand I’m really happy that finally people wake up to the dangers of having foreign governments snooping around in the data, on the other hand I’m really disappointed that it took so long before people finally woke up to the fact that foreign nations could spy on their data.

Specifically Microsoft ALWAYS has been very helpful to the US government for creating backdoors and delivering data on request.

@violetblue
Definitely needs some curating though.

@violetblue "Big Tech" is licking Trump's feet to be playing for the Orwellian Super Bowl.

Horrifying complicity.

P.S.: Under Trump's pathocracy law enforcement looks to be transformed into injustice enforcement.
