I am way more excited about these now that I have them home, very glad I didn’t balk at what I thought was a high, but was actually a low price. My old SE, later upgraded to an SE/30, was really my first computer. Feels so good to have one again. These are supposed to both work. I will crack them open later today and check on the batteries. #MacSE #retrocomputing

I cracked the SE. The case is a little marred so someone has been in here before and there was one screw missing. But the battery has not leaked yet! Date on the hard drive is from 1988! Not to dusty inside either. Will blow it out and give it a quick power on to test it. #macSE #retrocomputing

Looks like the SE/30 has a bit of rust inside but I’ve seen worse, doesn’t seem to have impacted anything. Phew!

@spacerog I'm not a Mac fan, but I have always liked this model. I had one years ago that I traded a 386 laptop for, wish I would have kept it.

@spacerog Are those brown stains in the socket below the SCSI (display?) port capacitor leakage? That can't be rust if it's a stain like that on plastic, no?

If this machine boots, there ALWAYS hope.

You just need to roll up your sleeves, fully disassemble it, clean it, then replate those contacts.

@spacerog you’re going to want to swap out caps and the battery asap. Good that it boots, but you’re pushing your luck with stability without that work.

@spacerog Is it spinning up? If not, a drive that old may be experiencing “stiction”. Turn the computer off and back on. As soon as you turn it on when the motor torque is high, tap the case edge on to the drive, perpendicular to the drive connector. Successively harder taps may be required to break the stiction.
