I need to compile a list of things that signaled the beginning of the end.

One of those things are when OS developed consistent mechanisms for notifications / alerts for all apps.

There’s something about everything having the same notification counts you must notice and clear across all kinds of platforms and apps, all these notifications ending up in an endless feed, etc.

While as “nice” and “convenient” as it is it sure’s felt like it’s helped fuel this exhausting endless grind.

@colinstu you need to develop a new perspective. Icons just have red dots in the corner, or huge numbers in a red lozenge. You don’t have to do anything about it, it’s just what they look like!

@Kestenan That's that CBT stuff that my ADHD/autism prevents from changing/working… or something.
I can’t leave things unread. So I have to disable notifications for lots of things. but some apps are crucial so I leave them on.

I wish I could go smartphone-less. But so much stuff in life requires a modern phone :/ I feel trapped.

I don't mind checking lots of places, having that friction and slowing me down helped. Wake up, no smartphone. Wait for PC to boot. Wait for email to download. etc.

@colinstu I accepted long ago that I'll never get through all my emails!
But yeah, I really like a slower pace. I dont want to fill in an online form, I want to go to the council office building, find the planning department, speak to the planning officers face to face and ask them why they are alowing TWO new buildings to be built in town to have architecture so hostile to people with mobility issues!
