Labour has got this arse about face. Very few people are on benefits as a lifestyle choice, benefit payments are not generous enough to facilitate a life of luxury.

Making vulnerable people poorer by reducing benefits is not likely to make their health issues magically improve sufficiently for them to enter employment.
They need support on many levels, primarily financial and medical.

If Labour really wants to improve the lot of those on disability benefits they should actually improve health care provision and increase all benefit rates so that people can afford good quality foods.
On the employment front they should also tighten up employment rights so that this particular group has more robust protections from unscrupulous employers.

Up to 1.2m disabled people will lose thousands in UK welfare overhaul, experts warn

Liz Kendall, the work and pensions secretary, laid out plans for £5bn savings but faces rebellion from some Labour MPs

The Guardian

@frantictdrinker I think a good measure of the dishonesty about all this is their claim that the purpose is to stop people being written off and help sick & disabled people to work…

…while slashing most from PIP, the benefit payable regardless of employment status, which is all that enables many disabled people to stay in work

This is performative cruelty for fascist voters & brainless fiscal “responsibility”: nothing more, nothing less
