Could someone better-at-patterns than me help me understand what I'm supposed to do here? I don't understand the diagrams or what the end product is supposed to look like.

@desiree hi! What I understand is the following: you want the lines at the V (roughly where my yellow lines are) to match up and be sewn. That’s the dart. Then, I think the lines you marked with “do these kiss” are a guide line for you to fold upwards (wrong sides together) - kinda makes me think of the border of a beanie that has been folded up :) It will look like figure 13.
@desiree Then you take the curved edges of the bustle, gather them and sew them to the bottom of your bodice (there might be some marks on the pattern to find some alignment? Otherwise seems like the dart is somewhat aligned with a side seam. )
Sewing it in this way will bunch up the flat edge, which will make it look like a bag. Like the ones attached at the bottom of figure 16.
