Could someone better-at-patterns than me help me understand what I'm supposed to do here? I don't understand the diagrams or what the end product is supposed to look like.

@desiree that is confusing. Usually darts are marked as a triangle-ish shape. You fold the fabric making sure both sides match and stitch across that line and it creates shape. I don’t see anything like that in your pattern piece? Are there markings on the paper pattern that didn’t get transferred?
@minorbeatrice that was what threw me off - there was only one line on those side markings. A couple of people confirmed that those lines seem to indicate a fabric fold, so I'm going to try it that way. Thanks for looking at it!
@desiree glad to help, I like a good mystery. if you fold along that line you should see where the fabric indents a little and that's where the stitch line should be. then when you iron it to the side it should align with the fabric again. If that makes sense?
