I told someone that I followed you because your reporting was the closest thing to the straight news I remembered from the last century, before every medium became inured with opinion-oriented journalism.

I'm gutted.
I grew up listening to VOA.
It was the only real news available when I lived in Saudi as a teen. One of the few connections to home. The local Saudi Channels broadcast very expurgated clips from the BBC.

My native accent was the deepest East Texas imaginable--think Ross Perot if he'd never left Diboll, TX. VOA in 'special english' was how I generalized my accent so I could be understood by English speakers from places more than 100 miles away from my point of origin.

I also learned more from VOA as a child than I ever did from school.

When I traveled later, I always carried a multi-band radio and hand drawn maps and schedules.

The loss to the world and to our country is incalculable.

My thanks to everyone who made the effort. And my sympathies thar you are suffering from the short-sightedness of small men.

I am sorry to hear the incredible news that Voice Of America is closed down.

In just a few weeks the new Administration destroys everything that the United States of America stood for.

Compassion, Democracy, Rule Of Law, it's gone.

It is baffling and one wonders if the motivation is only financial.

Who would have guessed that the American people would vote for their own demise?
It is not that these actions weren't announced during the campaign.
