Really scary stuff.

Pay attention. @ThomHartmann sure is:

"Cyberwar is sort of the opposite of neutron bombs. Instead of killing the people, it takes out the infrastructure with the goal being to disrupt society so severely as to bring down governments (the ultimate goal of most warfare)."

Could Russia Win a War Against America Without Ever Firing a Shot?

Russia’s cyber attack on Ukraine and subsequent invasion, it turns out, may just have been dress rehearsal…

The Hartmann Report
@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann did they not already do that?
@JonChevreau Did you read the article in full?
@GottaLaff I have now and agree it is scary, as was the BBC podcast on the weekend about North Korea’s massive cyber attack last week. Still think Russia won without a shot by helping 45 win in 2016 and then again helping making him 47 late in 2024.

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

Seems like a concept of a plan.

It defintely looks like that is what has occured over decades of blackmail and corruption, especially in NY.

@GottaLaff this is probably my greatest fear right now that essentially cyber bombs are being places in all our gov't computers via DOGE and hardly anyone is talking about it.

@lakelady @GottaLaff

Agree.

Elon talks about how the world is really just a simulation, we're NPCs to manipulate and destroy at will. So the bottom line is, what's best for Elon according to his inner narrative? Including the fact he sees Putin as a real player.

Nor sure exactly what Elon thinks is best for Elon, but I do know there are zero guardrails on that crazy train, and human life means nothing to him.

@lakelady @GottaLaff I'd be pleasantly disappointed in our adversaries if they're not doing it.

@lakelady @GottaLaff Amen. When this is all over, every single government computer and electronic file should be considered compromised; either infected with malware, distributed to bad actors, or both. It'll all need to be replaced and rebuilt from scratch.

And every American has now had their identity compromised. Should be free credit locking/monitoring for life.

Gonna be expensive.

@bubbajet @lakelady @GottaLaff
Crazypants.
Maybe issue new SSN's to replace the old ones while they're at it. And, everyone might consider opening new bank accounts and closing the old ones.

@lakelady @GottaLaff

Is extortion by denial of service necessary when you can manipulate the systems via back doors installed that constantly siphon off information?

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

For more than a decade, an informal interagency group known as Team Telecom reviewed and monitored submarine data cables landing in the US, as well as applications to build or sell the same. In 45's term, it was formalized as "The Committee for the Assessment of Foreign Participation in the United States Telecommunications Services Sector." It is controlled and advised by members of the cabinet.

Despite Starlink being in the headlines, ...

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann
...nearly all international telecoms is handled by these cables. Reporting on developments in this infrastructure is next to nonexistent in the popular press (there was one Twitter account t that tracked it).

The US was once protected by a Great Moat, plus two more or less uninhabited terrestrial neighbors.With the dawn of the current century, that ceased to be the case. Anyone watching the least bit closely understood it was no longer necessary...

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

... to launch a flotilla to besiege America - it could now be done from the comfort of an internet cafe in Khartoum.

Now, the people responsible for watching these cases and responding to threats are playing for the opposition.

Worse, over the same period, the US has consolidated its IT infrastructure onto three or four so-called "clouds." Rather than having to subdue thousands of diverse targets, the enemy ...

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

...now must only target three. Go all the way back to 1989 and the Morris worm - those of who know, knew then that this consolidation was dangerous for a host of reasons, with monocultures being near the top of the list.

I've written waaaaaay too much - esp since it's on someone else's thread. Suffice it to say that the only reason the Kremlin hasn't pulled the pin on this grenade is because they believe it is unnecessary - why destroy what will soon be yours?

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

Well they sure could do a lot of damage, and they are practicing on small scale lately, also with sabotaging (underseas) infrastructure... in Europe...

#russia

@xs4me2 This is REALLY scary @ThomHartmann

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

And Trump is opening all the windows for them already, the guy is a genuine Trojan horse...

Hegseth orders pause in offensive US cyber operations against Russia

The reported directive from the defence secretary comes during an American push to end the war in Ukraine.

@GottaLaff Probably coming on the eve of ”peace negociations” with Putin.

The friendlier you act towards the bear, the harder it hits you.

@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann

"Today everything from our water/power/sewer #utilities to our #cellular telephone systems... to our #nuclear weaponry and #military services runs on #digital ones & zeros that flow through #cyberspace...

With no power, no telecommunications, & no water, #American cities would descend into #chaos in days...

And #Trump & #Hegseth just eliminated most of our defenses against #Russia doing this to us."

@ZhiZhu I believe it will take something BIG to happen here to wake people up. But IF/WHEN they wake, it may be too late.
@ZhiZhu @GottaLaff @ThomHartmann Does that shock you about what they have done?
@GottaLaff @ThomHartmann well, I suppose fighting a guerilla war against Putin would be a lot like fighting one against Trump they are so much alike
