Does anyone know why this is? Here's a post from my other account. When I view it from that account, I can see loads of faves and boosts, but when I view it from this account (I followed my old account just in case it was that), it only shows 7? Does this instance have a lot of others that it defederates from? Or is it some other reason?

@SilverArrows
When you look at a post from old account from your new one you'll only see the favourites/boosts that came from the new instance back then. It doesn't mean your new instance lacks federation. Your new posts will show all the feedback as usual.

@pathfinder you'll have to explain like I'm 5, I don't get it 😅

How does the followers only thing work? Because I have a different account on Mastodon.social that I followed my old account with to check, and after a few minutes I could see all my follower only posts via that account. However, with this account, for instance my Calvin Jones post just shows an error message when I try to access it and I can't see it, even though I've set both these accounts to follow each other. Even public images won't show up in the media tab if I look via this account.

Edit: just to clarify, I haven't deactivated my old account. I'm basically just running two active accounts.

@SilverArrows
I'm no expert, but my understanding is that followers only just limits who can see your posts. I'm not sure if it can be backdated to old posts as essentially a new follower.
Also your old instance has been limping along for some time now. It's gone through various periods where it's not been reaching out at all. It may be to do with that.
@pathfinder oh okay, thanks. I can view backdated posts from another account on the same instance, but not from this instance. I would rather make this my main account.
@SilverArrows
I think you'll, given the problems the other one experienced, find it a happier experience.

@pathfinder I will have to spend at least another 3 days thinking and stressing about it first 😅
