All the single stair point access blocks: historical buildings in DC show how a single-stair structure can yield a range of benefits, both for what can be built and for residents' quality of life.: https://ggwash.org/view/98715/single-stair-buildings-in-dc-a-historical-perspective
@ggwash "Lesson learned: Single-stair multifamily designs enabled narrow buildings that fit on narrow city lots; adding more units means more narrow buildings, instead of making big buildings even wider or taller. Smaller buildings allow more builders to participate in neighborhood evolution." #ArchitecturalHistory #DMV #preservation #SingleStair #BuildingCodeReform #Housing #Architecture
@ggwash I was recently talking with a designer friend about whether "scissor stair" designs should be relegalized in Virginia. I've been pessimistic on them because I couldn't see how they could work with Low Income Housing Tax Credits, but this gives me some hope.
