#UniversityOfMaine’s #USDA funding restored

Maine (WABI) - "Senator #SusanCollins announced Wednesday that the University of Maine’s funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been restored.

"On Monday the University received notice that funding from the USDA was paused.

"According to UMS, the notice stated the pause was temporary while the USDA evaluated potential follow-up actions related to prospective Title VI (6) or Title IX (9) violations.

"Collins released at statement saying:

'This USDA funding is critically important not only to the University of Maine, but to our farmers and loggers, as well as to the many people who work in #Maine’s #agriculture, #aquaculture, and #forestry industries. Now that funding has been restored, the work that the University does in partnership with the many people and communities who depend on these programs can continue.'"

@DoomsdaysCW They seem to be releasing funds only to Republicans who come asking (begging) as if the withholding of funds is intended to reinforce this Republican Administration’s idea that one must grovel in front of them.

@grayladywriter Hmmm... Considering how much #JanetMills confronted #Trump, I'm surprised that the funding was restored. I'd like to think the threat of legal action might have changed minds. Collins isn't the begging type.

@DoomsdaysCW Tammy Duckworth tried to get USDA funds released for WI dairy farmers but no one would take her calls. Rep van Orden got them released and is cited as the person responsible.

@grayladywriter Duckworth is fighting for veterans. We need to ignore party lines and defeat fascism together. I don't care who gets credit as long as it gets done. We all know who is really pushing back -- the people!

@oldoldcojote I'm not sure if it was just her. There was pushback from a lot of folks, especially in support of Maine Sea Grant -- which benefits commercial fishermen. And Susan Collins is usually useless, but folks have been protesting outside her door. Just saying. I think we need to resist more and louder -- to drown out the Idiocracy!

@oldoldcojote I have less issues with Janet Mills (and her brother, former Maine Turnpike Authority director), and I do laud her for standing up to Drumpf.
