The first violet. The chickens seems to have found it before I did.

@firephoto Violet blossoms are an excellent source of vitamins A and C!
@sbourne I ate one last year, had that peppery arugula or radish leaf taste. Similar to some other flower I ate too, maybe the Nasturtiums.
@firephoto I picked my mom a bouquet of violets one time. She smelled them, smiled, and then took out half the bouquet in one big chomp. I was traumatized! I got over it pretty quickly and eat them myself.
@sbourne That's funny. It's suppose to rain so there might be a lot blooming this year. Many years it stays too dry before the irrigation water gets turned on. Hopefully I can add some to a salad.
@firephoto The flower stems are quite nice, too. Crunchy and just slightly sweet.
@firephoto Oh, and the leaves, too. You want to get them when they're young so they're not too tough and bitter.
The woodchucks and rabbits get all of mine before I can get around to harvesting them, though.
@sbourne Very few of them grow anywhere they get really leafy, mostly all in the lawn and barely if ever higher than the grass. I think there's a clump in the crack of some steps here that gets leafy. Very few non-lawn ones.
