Growing excitement! Today I'm making use of my Berlin colleagues goodbye gift and taking the #GlacierExpress to #SanktMoritz!
Not my train. Still nice. #MGB #matterhorngotthardbahn

#Goms ! DYK the founder of the #Ritz hotel is from the area. So the audioguide told me.

#GlacierExpress

Approaching #Oberwald. Crossing an RE going downhill. Car shuttle through #Furka leaves before us.

#RoLa #Furka #MGB #GlacierExpress

Investigated the bathroom while in the #Furka Tunnel. Nice sink 😅

It's a loooong tunnel.

#GlacierExpress

Steep climb after Andermatt towards #Nätschen. Very impressive.

#GlacierExpress

It's just white now.

#GlacierExpress

Wow. Approaching the #Oberalppass, the highest point of the journey at over 2000m. With Hühnerfrikassee.

#GlacierExpress #MGB

@diningcar Dessert is served in #Sedrun. The #Gotthard base tunnel runs below us.

#Disentis/Mustér - Rumantsch is the dominant language here, spoken by 75% of the local population. Interestingly, Portuguese immigration, mostly working in tourism, help to keep the language alive, as it's easier for them to learn than (Swiss) German.

#GlacierExpress gets another locomotive.

#Rumantsch #Romanche #Räthoromanisch

#GlacierExpress gets another locomotive.

#Disentis/Mustér

Slowly going downhill through #Grisons #Graubünden towards #Chur.

Never sure about how to pronounce the names of places in this area 😅

#GlacierExpress

Learned about the #Valser identity while passing #Ilanz. #GlacierExpress

#Rheinschlucht - the Rhine gorges, swiss grand canyon 😉 (says the audio guide)

#GlacierExpress

Approaching #Chur, third rail to share track with #SBB.

#GlacierExpress

#Chur, capital of #Graubünden #Grisons. Many people getting off. We're making a U turn back to #Reichenau-Tamins before diverging to St. Moritz.

#GlacierExpress

On this occasion I discover the partnership between #RhätischeBahn and the Japanese Hakone Tozan railway.

@Moritz_Kleine Did you mention the 4th national language in Switzerland?
@Moritz_Kleine soon you’ll be in Bergün, which is amazing. If you can, do the sledding between Preda and Bergün, it was one of the most fun activities my family has done in years
@mkristensson @Moritz_Kleine It can also be fairly scary. Fail taking a curve, run into the snow edge (no injury, no problem as such), and fall off your toboggan. Then lie there laughing until you notice that better sledders run past at high speed, 10 cm from your head, with their metal-skidded monsters.
@Moritz_Kleine @diningcar I read that there was once a plan for a Sedrun station in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, with an 800m lift to the surface
