It is funny isn't it: #Tschaikowsky hated the music of Richard Wagner. Yet, the famous motiv from Swan Lake (in this video appearing at 14:51) is nearly identical with the "Frageverbots-Motiv" from Wagners #Lohengrin (other key of course)...

@C_Rene_Hirschfeld @classicalmusic Oh, I think there's more Wagner in Tchaikovsky than he was prepared to admit. He did say Francesca da Rimini was written under the influence of the Ring, which he'd just heard at Bayreuth. And he was a lifelong admirer of Liszt, whose own Wagnerism may have rubbed off as well.

Oh that's absolutely true! And there is a certain coulour of glamour in Liszts as well as in Wagners music that, I guess, I wouldn't resist. It is a widely seen phenomenon that some #artists (not just #musicians) despise (or at least claim to not like) certain collegues they have more in common with then they would ever admit. πŸ˜‰
