Sometimes, throughout history, speaking up could be the most dangerous thing an ordinary human could doβand yet it is perhaps the most important thing, too.
When too few people speak up for too long, dangerous ideas can take hold: McCarthyism, Nazism, Stalinism, Maoism, and more.
All authoritarians have the same impulse: shut down speech they donβt like. But it doesnβt happen overnight.
Itβs a matter of enough people going with it long enough, little by little.
