More weird frustration: I went and left it alone and did some knitting, and 2 hours later I come back and look, and I got this error message:
adb: failed to read command: Success

Talk about mixed messages!

And the saga, um, comes to a temporary halt, as my laptop shut down due to running out of battery, because I'd unplugged the power in order to use the only USB-C port I had.
Guess I'm going to have to look for a USB-A-to-USB-C converter...

Victory!!!
I now have LineageOS on my Google Pixel 2!!!
(Yeah, I was flipping around trying different OSs, and by the time I found out how to fix the install, I was trying LineageOS rather than /e/OS)

The problem? A weird hardware thing where you need to plug the phone INTO A USB HUB rather than directly to the computer. No, I don't know why, but it worked.

I have now installed FDroid, and I shall see what apps I need and can install.

I also need to check whether the original (hardware?) problem (rebooting when taking a picture) is still happening on my device.

And the answer is: yes, it is. Phone reboots after taking multiple photographs.

So. Here I have a #DeGoogled Google Pixel 2 with #LineageOS installed on it. The camera isn't reliable, the battery life is laughable.

What on earth am I going to DO with it?
Any ideas, oh #Mastodon Hive-Mind?
