Stop it with the "Not All Americans" bullshit. It's the same as the "Not All Men" or "Not All White People" bullshit.
Nobody is saying that you PERSONALLY are responsible for every atrocity that our government does. But they are saying that our country collectively is. And we have collectively let the world down in creating this. And thus it is up to us collectively to fix it. They can't do it for us, we gotta step up and fix our own shit.
@JessTheUnstill 160 million American voters could have rejected fascism and hate by voting for Harris but chose not to. This was a test, and America got a big, fat, fucking F.
This administration IS what the majority of voters want. Sure, some of them will now say "I didn't vote for THIS," but they have zero excuse to feign ignorance. It was crystal fucking clear what they'd do, but people chose to be disinformed.
This IS America. Unfucking this country will take a generation at least.
@Legit_Spaghetti @JessTheUnstill
Repeating again that Democrats made the elections into a trolley problem. Without knowing how many bodies were on which track, I can see why some might have undervalued the difference and/or felt that any number is too big.
Not to mention there are so many red states, that understandable if you're not going to bother voting blue in one of them, even if you don't mind trolleys.
@JessTheUnstill Sure I know itโs not all of you. And Iโd like to think most of US citizens I know made different choices, but it is not a new or even unexpected thing. I know way to many non-American (South, Central, or North) people who have much the same values as those US citizens who still support the duly elected government.
This particular regime could never have taken the power it has without 50 years of political shift, that may not have been noticeable at first, but has had a good twenty years of concern being expressed about. And consistently every US political voice expressing that has been suppressed by their own people.
From outside this does not look particularly exceptional.
@JessTheUnstill you're not wrong, but it sucks being called the villain. Especially when one tried to prevent this shit from happening, and is part of the resistance.
For those of us who are the intended victims of the regime, it hurts (a lot) to be grouped in the people who want us dead. #USPol
I absolutely feel the personal responsibility and blame heaped up on individuals, distilled and concentrated on Fedi especially.
Multiple people here have asserted and still assert words to the effect that if you aren't risking your life and don't intend to die swiftly, resisting, you aren't doing enough and it's your fault. Personally. Also if your voter demographic had majority support for trump, it's also your fault. Personally. Regardless of your actual vote or actions leading up to the election.
I'm GenX. They are right actually. There's a quote from @JuliusGoat that says there's a word for people who supported Nazis for reasons other than racial hatred, that word is Nazi. I am here to tell you there's a word for anyone in Nazi Germany that did not stand out obviously resisting, escaping, or dying in the attempt. It's still Nazi. In the 70s, when I was a child, my parents told me, never ask a German about it.
That's all of us right now in America, unfortunately including myself. It's tearing me apart.
Yes "not all Americans" is bullshit. It is, actually, all Americans. But you are wrong about nobody is saying you are personally responsible. You are. I am too. We let this happen. We need to fix it. Or 10 years from now, MAGA will be an epithet that describes us all, just like Germans from the late 1930s.
If only I had any idea how to do something effective. I haven't worked for the federal government in many years ... I feel this is the time of networking, and securing ones digital self, but doing that doesn't count as ostentatiously resisting.
@JessTheUnstill @thefwguy @jdarnold @kevinrothrock reminder: this is a coup
And some were kicked off their ballot
Those in charge do not care if what they are doing is illegal and will commit fraud in order to succeed
Also generalization in general is shit and lacks nuance (Also this is coming from someone with trauma based misanthropy that im having to work and fight around to help others)
And some social Medias attract the shit types (even though there's a few(also see the nazi bar problem))
Take a look at 4chan (full of shitty types except for the very tiny percentage and is generally a nazi bar) take a look at twitter and bluesky and compare it to fedi
More of fedi has been backing zelenskyy then other platforms (there are exceptions to this)
There's also some who take the blame all men and apply it to transmascs or pull terf bullshit as has been stated by others on fedi
And also organizing isn't always obvious and some are working on resisting but in small ways which builds and builds and it's every countries residents including Americas to educate themselves even if its underground and organize inside and out and to create networks even across borders to get the vulnerable out and to also help resist within borders
And a reminder to punch a nazi and fuck shit up
@JessTheUnstill I think when our governments do immoral things -- and most governments do, at least sometimes -- then I think that as citizens we have a duty to protest, and that if we don't protest I think we can reasonably be considered to be at least complicit.
Don't you?
@JessTheUnstill remember when terrorist attacks happened? I mean "foreign terrorist" attacks...
They all had to excuse themselves, even the ones who didn't think it's a good idea to kill people...
