Mozilla's "don't be evil" moment. "Does Firefox sell your personal data?"

From: "Nope. Never have, never will....That’s a promise."

To: "Mozilla doesn’t sell data about you (in the way that most people think about “selling data“), and we don’t buy data about you. Since we strive for transparency, and the LEGAL definition of “sale of data“ is extremely broad in some places, we’ve had to step back from making the definitive statements you know and love. "

Mozilla’s Data Privacy FAQ

At Mozilla, we respect and protect your personal information.

Mozilla
@sarahjamielewis It's sad seeing that everyone will eventually disappoint you. Is there nobody left truthful anymore? I've been Mozilla's staunch defender in the past and I just feel lied to now. Wild world.

@sarahjamielewis All the more reason to look at browsers like DuckDuckGo & Ecosia? 😞

Wherefore art thou, Netscape?

@jsv chiu bonulo malbonulighas, chi-epoke.

@sarahjamielewis lol, that FAQ is comedy:

«Q: You folks at Mozilla must know a ton of stuff about me, right? A: Mozilla doesn’t know as much as you’d expect about how people browse the web»

“We know less than you expect” is a great privacy claim 😂

@sarahjamielewis Judging by how well they anticipated the community's reaction to this, I don't think Mozilla should be confident that they know how "most people think about 'selling data'".

Instead of telling me "we don't do what some hypothetical people might define as....", why don't you just tell me what you *actually* do?
