Hey all, in honour of Norn, I'm going to repost their other previous spotlights here this week, originally published on the blog last spring/summer.

About a month into the 1001 Other Albums project, I put a call out for guest write-ups, and Norn asked if they could instead contribute by way of art spotlights. I was thrilled at the idea and they immediately sent 6 pieces over, all part of their Record Collection series which they had gallery showings for (under the exhibit name "BOYS KEEP SWINGING") in Brooklyn and the UK and published in artbooks. Norn was an absolute music fanatic, so even though they didn't submit any albums to The List themselves, I consider these pieces as Norn co-signing their inclusion in The List. So, again or for the first time, I hope you enjoy Norn's wonderul art and give the related album a spin in their honour.

Note these earlier spotlights all reference Norn's website that had their full Record Collection series. Edit: Norn's FB page is still up, and seems to have the full Record Collection series there, with lovely notes to go with some of the pieces. I'm going to include those notes when reposting if Norn had included them (and I've gone back and edited the Bjork and Dusty posts).

Dusty Springfield – Dusty in Memphis (1969, UK)

The spotlight we're revisiting today is on number 1007 on The List, submitted by Annaspanner. This was the first art spotlight we had from Norn, published last March, and it really showcases Norn's fantastic smile-inducing style. Until a few days ago, this was our 3rd most viewed post on the blog, now bumped down to 4th by Norn's Björk Homogenic spotlight that we looked at again yesterday. What can I say, the Internet loves Norn (and Dusty). 💜

Norn's note on this piece: "Is this one of the most perfect albums in the history of music? mmmm, could be!"

Kate Bush – The Dreaming (1982, UK)

The spotlight we're revisiting today is on number 576 on The List, submitted by guyjantic. This was the second art spotlight we had from Norn, published last April, and possibly my favourite of the 6. Norn also did a tribute to Hounds of Love and the Running Up That Hill single later in their Record Collection Series. 💜

The Velvet Underground – The Velvet Underground (1969, US)

The spotlight we're revisiting today is on number 898 on The List, submitted by arratoon. This was the third art spotlight we had from Norn, published last June, a few months before the album's 55th anniversary.

Here's what Norn had to say about this one: "Many times, I've taken a vow that I would never talk to anyone who hadn't listened to The Velvet Underground at *some* point in their lives. I've always broken the vow, but it seems like a good guideline. I have no interest in "normalcy", being "accepted" or participating in mainstream culture. I LOVE being an outsider." 💜

Laurie Anderson – Big Science (1982, US)

The spotlight we're revisiting today is on number 114 on The List, submitted by arratoon. This was the fourth art spotlight we had from Norn, published last July. I'm particularly grateful for this one as I was just getting into Laurie Anderson at the time, and getting the spotlight ready cemented my Anderson fandom.

Here's what Norn had to say about this one: "When I came to NYC, I thought life was gonna be nonstop art all the time! I thought you would turn on the kitchen faucet and Laurie Anderson music would come out!" 💜

Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On (1971, US)

The spotlight we're revisiting today is number 246 on The List, submitted by me (buffyleigh). This was the 2nd last art spotlight we had from Norn, published last August. This album is sadly still very relevant, the title essentially what my brain screams every day.

Since we already reposted Norn's final spotlight last weekend, this is the last one we'll be revisiting. As Norn would say, thank you for going through this process with me. 💜
