checking in on decentralized assets intended to be independent from governments and big banks

#crypto #cryptocurrency

@molly0xfff Monero is still independent and not captured like Bticoin and co.

Monero = anarchist money

@project_1 @molly0xfff in what way? Ik the hash power is more decentralized but what exactly do you mean?

@theearthisapringle @molly0xfff

You are right Monero is way heathier than others on the technical side.

But what I meant is more broadly. Monero has no vc funding, is actively developing and not stagnant like Bitcoin. The community behind Monero is mostly anarchistic, so there is a culture behind it.

The only thing that bitcoiners think is pretty much = wen number go up

Bitcoin core has funding from AXA and private investors which worked for Obama.

There is a book about this. "Hijacking Bitcoin" *not read it myself

A few examples which are the reason I primarily support Monero :)

@project_1 anarchist money, huh? you use monero to pay rent on your squatted house and to pay for soup from #foodnotbombs ?

@pelle
Hi, thanks for the reply. Sadly you seem to be angry, but I will still try to explain.

No, unfortuneatly I do not pay with Monero for soup. These are cases where monero did not have its impact yet.

If you would like to support anarchists on the ground, here are comrades accepting Monero:
https://tekosinaanarsist.noblogs.org/category/statement/

When the purpose of Monero is to abolish banks and to develop counter economy, this seems to me, to be very anarchistic.

Other projects around Monero are creating safe spaces so that people can organize freely.

I would be very happy to know, what you think about my reply.

Revolutionary greetings

@molly0xfff so much for trying to solve consensus via technology eh? :p
@molly0xfff how do you get Dr. Pepper out of a keyboard? Asking for a friend.
@gwync A spit take warning before this next part. With PC keyboards, after you've removed the key caps you can take the shell apart and remove the circuit board to make it possible to safely clean the shell with the rinse cycle in a dishwasher. Just take my word for it that you should NOT then try to dry the shell in an oven, even if one is conveniently nearby.
@JTO_is_Typing yes, I know, thank you. I guess I forgot the /s tag.
Crypto Leaders Call For Infusion Of 20 Million Dopes To Stabilize Market

BOSTON—Stressing that the move would help keep digital currencies liquid through the coming year, crypto leaders called for an infusion of 20 million dopes Thursday to stabilize the market. “We’re calling for millions of bozos to be infused into the crypto market to stave off collapse and assure investors their money is safe,” said Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, who along with other industry leaders stressed that a significant investment of chumps was urgently needed to lend confidence to exchanges of top currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether. “Of course, we’re also hoping to eventually offset risk by diversifying into galoots, simpletons, and outright morons. But the important thing now is to get many, many more idiots confused enough to believe they have any chance in hell of making money off this grift.” Allaire noted that if a diverse range of dumbasses was not available, he was also considering propping up the industry by minting a single billionaire numbskull.

Goddamn it! This will happen with in a couple of years. I can see Sen. Cotton of Arkansas sponsoring a bill to do this after Oklahoma goes bust on this.
Fucking life imitating art.
@molly0xfff it never made sense to me, other than to scam the gullible out of their hard earned cash. Or to hide illegal trades...
@jmrubillon @molly0xfff it’s got lower monetary inflation than other currencies
@theearthisapringle @molly0xfff well yeah, negative "inflation" you mean 🤪
@jmrubillon @molly0xfff well what do you mean
I mean that every year less and less bitcoins are mined and this causes the inflation rate to drop
@molly0xfff number go where SecTreas says number should go

@Npars01 just nope, nope, nope. For crying out loud!😩 (Thanks for sharing..I
hadn't heard about this!)
@molly0xfff "If governments don't support my fully independent, made up, currency asset, who will?"
@molly0xfff I have wondered for some time how the whole cryptocurrency concept went from being built to get around fiat currency to depending on government support. It's all just Venmo with more fraud now, isn't it?

@puppethead @molly0xfff

It seems as though they want to get set up comfortably in crypto then abandon the dollar. Of course they would stand to profit immensely and require all transactions be done so that they can monitor and reap the tax every penny. It would collapse the country into the dictator's lap.

@molly0xfff

All crypto costs the environment in a big, big way!!!

The electricity used to make just 1 ONE CRYPTO COIN can power 14.5 average US households for a year.

So the electricity to make ONE MILLION Crypto Coins would power 14,500,000 homes.

As of July 1, 2023, California had 14,763,237 housing units. So that amount of electricity can power all but about 263,000 homes is California.

The EPA should have shut this shit down in the US and in Canada, environment Canada years ago!!!!

@blueluma @Mor696 @molly0xfff Other more different unsourced material that seems more generally accepted on the internet seems to suggest that is roughly correct for bitcoin and may even be a little low. Various internet sources say bitcoin uses roughly 100,000 times what VISA uses. Most other coins are much more ecologically economical such as Ethereum that is only about 20x VISA (and dropping) or Solana which is 8000x VISA (all assuming only compute and not necessarily the human requirements such as offices as well as mismatching data years)

@HawtP0tat0 @Mor696 @molly0xfff
"various internet sources" is not a source, nor an evidence.

"What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence" - Hitchens's razor

@blueluma @HawtP0tat0 @Mor696 @molly0xfff True but also this is mastodon and not a technical blog and my sources cited would be much longer than my post and include the napkin I used for my math neither of which I feel like posting.
@HawtP0tat0 @Mor696 @molly0xfff also, not assuming the human requirements is kind of a big thing omit

BTW we know that "mining" Cryptocurrency is not necessary. The world has money. The Dollar, Euro, Yen, Renminbi, British Pound, etc.

The fact is we are using an inordinate amount of electricity to produce something that is not needed.

Much like online shopping. Instead of 1 truck delivering 1000 items to a store there's a 1000 trucks delivering individual items to 1 house at a time.

Perfect post.

@molly0xfff Independent of big banks? I don't think it's going so well. Have you heard about the memecoin ruling? I read a nice description of it on sojooo earlier:

@molly0xfff Everything is manipulated.

@molly0xfff Remember when cryptocurremcy was said to be able to operate without the need of banks and governments and such?

So, about that...

@molly0xfff What initiative? Another pump-and-dump?
@molly0xfff I can't even count the number of times VCs said to me "build something people love". Don't we all wish Andreesen Horowitz would take their own advice? That'd be novel. Innovative, even.

@codinghorror @molly0xfff
"build something people love" - that's the Tech version of "just write a hit song"
Which demand are they talking about though? The demand for using cryptocurrencies for the initially intended purpose or the demand for cryptocurrencies which grow exponentially in price forever?
