If you could regain your vision, would you? There’s no wrong answer. 👀 #VisionRestoration #BlindCommunity #Perspective
@doubletap I definitely would love to *gain* vision.
@doubletap HOnestly, I never considered having vision as I was born without it, so I'd only be gaining something I never knew how to use. I'm fine being blind.
@doubletap At this stage of life probably not because even if it could be achieved it might end up being in a form that would cause more suffering than benefit, more sorrow than joy. What if it resulted in light sensitivity that induced head aches or double vision or something other that one would then be stuck with as a result. But I'd never tell anyone else not to go for it were they of a mind to do so.
@robini71 @doubletap Yes! This is how I feel too. It's not for me, but I would totally be behind others doing so if they wanted to try.
@silly_singer @robini71 @doubletap I just turned 45, and as cool as it might be to see what my favorite color, which is blue, looks like or things like that, but I'm at a point whyere I don't think I'd want to drasticly alter my life to accommodate seeing
@startrek2025 Have you ever had vision? I was just curious since you mentioned having a favorite color.
@robini71 Never have. But any time I've been complimented on something I'm wearing I was wearing some sort of shade of blue, plus it's the color of my eyes, and the sky on a sunny day. If I look good in that beautiful a color, then blue for the win
@startrek2025 Ah I was curious as I've known a few #Blind people who've never had vision who note a favorite color which is interesting to ponder as it might seem abstract to some. Not sure I have a favorite myself but I understand blue is very popular and people say I look good in pink so there's that. My mom always loved yellow and my kitchen is still yellow and thinking of it makes me smile because it seems so warm.
@robini71 Yeah, I can generally picture what basic colors like red or blue would look like from how they were described. It's when you get to varrying shades of blue that I get confused. Not sure how sky blue and dark blue are different, for instance
@startrek2025 Right and then there are color names today that don't even indicate what they are in real life like "tender poppy" and the like.
@robini71 @startrek2025 I really hate when you're trying to pick a colour for something and the colors have weird names like that. Tender poppy, I'm thinking, would be a light red, but we can't know. I once had a color choice called, and i kid you not, jazzberry. I love the name, and apparently it's a shade of purple, I had to google it!
@lulu_bear @startrek2025 I wonder who has the job of creating all of these color names #Oy
@startrek2025 @robini71 I always think of sky blue is lighter than dark blue, and brighter too.
@lulu_bear @robini71 Of course, just when I thought I knew what colors look like, Netflix told me Orange Is The New Black. Confused. LOL
@robini71 @startrek2025 Bet you can guess what my fave colour is!
@startrek2025 @robini71 I've never had vision either, but I was taught about colours by my mum, what went with what adn what clashed, things I'm very grateful I know. I'm a pink girl, I love pink and it suits me. I used to have pink streaks in my hair once, but it takes way too much upkeep for me these days. I kind of miss it though sometimes.
@doubletap At this point, probably not. 20 years ago, maybe. But, the fact I was born blind, I would not be "regaining my vision," but more getting a sense I've never had, and I'm not sure I want to do that. People who go blind have resources to learn to live life as a blind person. We as people who are blind would need the opposite more than likely, and I highly doubt such a thing exists.
@doubletap Absolutely yes. I’m comfortable enough in my blind life but it’s still restrictive. And I’ve never seen my grandsons. Just to be able to play games with them would be wonderful.
@doubletap I wrote about this a few years ago:
