“ Pretty smart. Can't even start the 7 year process of mining minerals until the war is over. But won't get to mine minerals at all unless the war ends on Ukraine's terms.

Basically if Trump wants those minerals, he has to take Zelenskyy's side.

Zelenskyy boxed him in.”

@GottaLaff That is fantastic news.
@TammyGentzel I hope he’s right
@GottaLaff @TammyGentzel Mining requires large investments ... from the USA. This can therefore be seen as a framework agreement for American investment in Ukrainian mining. Certainly helpful for Ukraine after the war 😇

@h_albermann @TammyGentzel I'm not so sure there is an "after the war" until Russia completes its mission.

I think Trump's "deal" will eventually end up with the war resuming and Russia having free rein.

@GottaLaff @TammyGentzel
In my view, all negotiations with the USA are about gaining time. They are not a reliable partner, neither for Ukraine nor for the other European nations. Unfortunately, the Americans' departure creates a major power vacuum. Everything now depends on the Europeans. We must organize effective military and not just monetary support for Ukraine as quickly as possible.

@GottaLaff @TammyGentzel

The technical capabilities are definitely there, even if there are gaps. The war in Ukraine is being fought according to completely new rules anyway. Now the Europeans must show that they can quickly implement the consequences of this.

If we can do that, it doesn't matter what treaties the Americans conclude with the Russians.

@GottaLaff @TammyGentzel@awscommunity.

There is no security for anyone in all of this. But for Europe, it's all or nothing.

The changes in the US-European relationship cannot be overestimated. Pro-American politicians are speaking out in a way that would have been unthinkable a year ago. Trust has been permanently destroyed and will never return to its former level.

@GottaLaff
And what about the other American allies?

What consequences will they draw from American behavior? American weapons systems may be (partly) superior, but what is that worth if I am no longer supplied with ammunition in an emergency because the USA has a better deal with my attacker?
