This is great news! I wish all government accounts would do the same.
That's great news! Now, if only the entire government would stop using foreign owned walled gardens to communicate with Canadians.
If only there was some sort of open, easily federated platform that could be run within the gc.ca domain, thereby verifying every person and post on the platform. 🤔
It's a great start, though. The less entities and people supporting that fascist site, the less good people will feel they have to remain there.

#PostOfTheWeek (season 2):
The Canadian Supreme Court has announced that it will no longer be posting on X.
In a short post announcing its departure on Wednesday, the court said it would be “focusing our communication efforts” on other platforms.
Other state bodies and private businesses have also left X in recent months due to concerns about the platform’s policies and misinformation
I always loved the Supremes and this will make Trumpusk batshit crazy
LinkedIn,Facebook, Instagram and YouTube! Mastodon users react:
The Supreme Court of Canada should get a Bluesky account. At least it's not run by fascists.
@KathyLK @Paulatics Agree completely that SCC should be on BlueSky, as I perceived it to be the least bad mainstream alternative.
But I'm rather less sure about the "not run by Fascists" part, at least in the mid to long term if (maybe) not right now.
If Bluesky ever gets "bought" by a fascist, I'll leave. In the meantime, it's a good place to communicate to Democrats in our government who refuse to set up Mastodon accounts. Believe me, I've told people I know to join Mastodon, but they think it's too complicated.
As it was, it took me a while to figure out how to remove all the "boosts" from my feed so I could get only original posts.
The Twitter experience suggests that, by that time it is inevitably* bought by a fascist, it will be very, very difficult to leave.
*so far, I'm not aware of anybody with a business model for a social media service that makes more money than turning it fascist. (Similar to why there's little left-wing talk radio, no solution there in 30 years so far.)
That makes the takeover quite inevitable, even if I can't supply the date. But recall Dorsey DIDN'T shut down Trump 5X.
I didn't find it hard to leave Twitter at all. I will leave Bluesky in a minute if the CEO and Board turn it into a fascist platform. In the meantime, it serves a purpose, and as long as it's useful to me, I'll stay on it.
I find the antagonism to Bluesky by Mastodon users to be a bit puzzling. It's not like Bluesky is "taking away" anything from Mastodon. It's not like Bluesky users are being brainwashed into becoming fascists. Really, give those of us who are on both Bluesky and Mastodon some credit for at least having a little intelligence.
I know the risks, but as I said, right now Bluesky is useful. I can communicate directly with some people--primarily Democrats and civil rights organizations in the U.S.-- who are not on Mastodon now. Some of them even respond, so I know they're aware of what I think. Trying to predict Bluesky's future and allowing a hypothetical future to affect my current status on Bluesky isn't worth arguing about, IMHO.
The difference between the rich and the poor, one could argue, is long-term planning. The poor feel forced to seize short-term opportunities.
Best of luck!
Wow, condescending much? Or are you simply a conspiracy theorist?
A very wise decision…
It's a start. But Facebook and Instagram are no better.
Great they are abandoning Twitter, but the others mentioned are not much better.
To me, it would be better to move to BlueSky and/or Mastodon, leaving Facebook and Instagram.
@Paulatics
Have they noticed that those are all USA-based companies, and been invited to consider the merits of their own Mastodon server?
In addition, to be sure.
