#collage #CollageChallenge

Last week I made a journal for #Februllage2025 with mixed-media #CansonPaper. It’s a 5-hole saddle-stitch, waxed linen binding with a sample of wallpaper as a cover. This is my favorite kind of journal to make!

I’ve put the list of prompts on one page, it’s a great excuse to use my fountain pens! I plan to make a collaged title page, hopefully before the month is over!

#Febbrullage2025 #Day1 #Trees

I cut all of the trees, along with the deer and rabbit from a couple of different pieces of our Christmas wrapping paper.

The bits of blue for the sky and the sun are from my stash of found papers; from advertising, packaging, junk mail, and literally found!

#Febbrullage2025 #Day2 #Shell

I made this last night but don’t have energy for a post. Plus the photos were better in the morning light. I often find that I finish an art challenge at night and post the following day.

This shell uses a map, a book page with acrylic received in a paper swap, a paper bag, and an ink dyed, punched paper circle.

I used a rollage technique for the shell. Thin, triangular shapes were cut from the map and book page. These were pieced onto the paper bag and then cut out.

I pleated the strips and cut a scalloped top. I added the wings and the circular piece to pull the bottom together. I then only glued the bottom to the journal, this preserves the texture created through folding.

I’m catching up with #Febbrullage2025, here’s #Day3 #School

I have a couple of collaborative projects with deadlines that I’ve been working on, but I am also getting pieces finished in the journal I made for this challenge.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day5 #Chaos

I had fun using all the scraps hanging about from the past week to represent chaos.

Oops, got out of order!

#Febbrullage2025 #Day4 #Dice

I went in a culinary direction instead of tabletop gaming one for this collage. I considered adding dots to the squares, but decided to commit to the mise en place feel instead!

#Febbrullage2025 #Day6 #Metal

After doing some very fussy cutting I really got into all the ink splatters and lines, finally deciding to discard the magazine image in favor of an abstract composition. #DiamineInk Is used extensively along with some shiny packaging and a sheet of heavy, silvery paper.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day7 #Neighborhood

After doing some very fussy cutting of an image from a travel magazine I constructed a background of strips of paper dyed with ink or painted with watercolor. The strips make up an abstract street with sky above, the yellow representing the sunny day in the magazine image.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day9 #Horizon

This landscape collage uses papers dyed with ink or painted with watercolor. There’s also a small scrap of a map mixed in the mountains and the solid piece of navy, mulberry paper that has silver stars printed on it.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day8 #Cartoon

Oops, I am out of order again! I remembered a handout of comics I had from a class in 2022 and found it to use as the source materials. I draw my own simple comics, but it feels like I’m cheating or something if each piece isn’t mostly collage for Februllage!

#Febbrullage2025 #Day11 #Stuck

This collage might be my favorite of them all so far! I’ve used a scrap of wallpaper for the spiky part of my awl/skewer, some watercolor painted papers, and a bit of map for this kebab-style collage.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day12 #Online

I spent many years working in tech and have several old SysAdmin magazines in my collection of source materials. A rather terrible advertisement for Dice became the primary image. The circles were punched from a page with examples of Perl and ink elements added.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day13 #Heavy

This was another fun one! The person in a yoga pose came from a catalog. The ground and all the stones are wallpaper. I drew stone shapes and cut them out, working from the bigger stones to the small ones.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day14 #Romance

A jewelry advertisement and a dance company season brochure provided the materials for this one.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day16 #Freeze

I was going through several old National Geographics trying to see if I spotted an ad for a Polaroid camera. Instead I found a column of Waring products, including the #IceJet! The person skiing was on the same page. I used my square punches and paper painted with watercolors for the ice cubes.

#Febbrullage2025 #Day17 #Jelly

I wasn’t really into making a gelatin or agar dessert themed collage so I went for #jellyfish which are way cooler! I had fun using punches to make incomplete circles from acrylic ink-dyed paper to become the jellies. Fountain pen ink and shiny gel ink was used for the rest of the details.
