Truly stunning what happened at the DOJ with the Eric Adams case this week. The DOJ dropped the criminal corruption case against NYC Mayor Adams contingent upon him implementing Trump's anti-immigration agenda, with the threat of resuming prosecution if he failed to comply. The *acting* deputy AG behind this (at the behest of the President) has been part of Trump's criminal defense team since 2023. At least seven DOJ attorneys refused to carry out the acting AG's order, at which point their positions became untenable and they resigned. "At a minimum it looked like an extraordinary abuse of prosecutorial power... What's very clear in the initial memo from Mr. Bove directing the dismissal is that the reason for the dismissal had nothing to do with the merits of the case. And was instead intended to leave Mayor Adams unfettered to pursue the President's immigration agenda. And it said that the charges could be reinstated at a future date, very clearly leaving hanging over Mayor Adams head the threat of reindictment if in fact he did not comply with the President's immigration agenda and fell out of favor with the Administration.
