Personally I think it’s just something his mother has always screeched in an attempt to make excuses for him being a sociopath, so now he trots it out to try to hide behind too. I disagree. The brain wiring of autism generally makes it easier for us to make moral, honest choices,* because our thinking isn't as influenced by impulse.

BUT, that lack of impulse means that we also lack an impulse to stay within social boundaries, therefore, we can be bigger dicks when we do go off the rails.

* research shows autistics tend to speak and act more honestly & ethically in real world scenarios

Overall, we experience all the same compassion & desire to connect with fellow humans as everyone, but we understand and participate in communication in a more logical, clinical way.

Non-autistics people's brains intuitively understand lots of unspoken stuff that can derail kindness, but also adds guardrails against blatant cruelty.

IMO, result is that autistics tend to be more extreme in kindness v. cruelty.

I've seen quite a few people use Musk's alleged autism as an insult. It's the same thing as calling Trump "fat." Trump won't see that, but your friends will and they'll know what you really think of them. Same with autism. Musk won't see this. Autistic people on Mastodon will.

Unfortunately, people use autism as an insult all the time. So people being ableist towards Felon Musk doesn't surprise me. Doesn't mean it's right, though. Especially not by autistic people.

I mean, I'm trans, I've seen the same process a lot surrounding asshole trans people like Caitlyn Jenner and Buck Angel. Suddenly people think it's okay to misgender and/or deadname them because they're assholes... NO! It's never okay to misgender and/or deadname a trans person. Even, or I'd even say, expecially, when you disagree with them or when they're being assholes.

Well thanks for not judging me too harshly there. 🙄
For one thing, he's a well known liar. But I have also looked up this business of his being autistic, and so far I have only found one instance of him having ever mentioned it. It was on Saturday Night Live, not a venue known for accurate dissemination of information. Every other instance of it that I've found was just media outlets reporting on it and taking it as gospel. If he had said it before, or since, I would be more inclined to take it seriously. However in a subsequent interview he referred to the incident saying "...or whatever it is I said I was." This does not give me a great deal of confidence that what he was saying was serious. If you have evidence to the contrary I'm happy to look at it.
