I am hugely grateful to these well-informed fantasy fans for taking the time to write these letters rebuking The Guardian for that asinine 'romantasy' opinion piece.

Fantasy fiction doesn’t need reclaiming for women – they already write and read it

Letters: Responding to an editorial about the surge in romantasy books, James Latimer writes that romance isn’t only for girls, and Yvonne Williams talks about the synergy of dragons and sex

The Guardian

@JulietEMcKenna

Sometimes I think the #Grauniad never escaped from the mid nineties and the #LadsMags era. Then there is shit like this where I start to think it never escaped the Seventies...

#TheGuardian #TheGrauniad #The90s #The70s

@CrypticMirror @JulietEMcKenna I think this partly reflects that generic content is often written by journalists who are at best passingly familiar with their subject - IME, this becomes painfully obvious when the writing touches upon any subject where I happen to know more than just the bare minimum.

And of course that incentivizes the lazy reproduction of ancient prejudices over anything relevant or interesting 😐

Good for the readers to push back! And a hooray for all the expert journalists who actually know their shit, the Beth Moles and Carl Zimmers and Brian Krebses and their friends out there...
