@GregCocks that's cool! Tthe article at least really didn't answer any questions about how a hotspot could possibly create lakes like that. They're not caldera lakes, so I'd be very interested in theories as to how else a hotspot could help create then

My reading of it is that the researchers aren't completely understanding of the relationship either. It's likely just one of several factors that resulted in the geology of the area we see today.

I might have missed it on the read but to add on we do know already that Superior exists as a result of being part of a rift system that had halted back in the Precambrian.
