He never mentioned Iwo Jima but I know he was on Tarawa, as a US Army surgical techincian. He had to carry a ten pound tommy gun wirh all his medic gear because the Japanese Imperial Army routinely fired at medics.
Japan's relationship w Hitler.and Nazi Germany reminds me of the current rolea of such fash as Andy Ngo and Jovi Val.
Whenever cops at protests or street.battles single out medics for beatings I am reminded of my father's WWII stories.
Lastly, he didn't go to war just so I could fight Nazis again late in my own lifetime!
