@hacks4pancakes It’s weird how when the Republicans were the minority, the democrats said their hands were tied.
And now the democrat minority leader is saying “it’s the republican’s government, now!” Seems like it was before, too. And now they just are glad they can get back to insider trading because *they* will be rich and okay, even if their constituents will suffer.
@keif @hacks4pancakes Regarding the bit on Insider Trading, I see that as the source of so many of the issues.
My hot take is that these congressional jobs don't pay enough. I can't consider running, because I couldn't maintain my primary home/retirement savings goals and have a place to stay in Washington, while fairly compensating staff.
It would be impossible for most reasonably successful "regular people" to take the job and ignore external financial support.
It's a government job, not unlike the military. The pay may not need to be adjusted, but living expenses should be covered. There should be taxpayer-funded lodging based on the number of dependents, a chow-hall, free utilities, just like the military.
