At 17, after giving up on learning the Neverwinter Nights editor, I also failed my first pitch. At that time, I stumbled across an application for a temporary tester position at Milestone. So, I pitched this opportunity to my father and asked him if I could apply. It was 4 hours of travel from home by car; obviously, he refused. When I was 18, I made a long-term plan: since no games design school existed in Italy ~15 years ago, I chose the Computer Science course at the University as my Troy's horse to enter the industry. I planned to take my first step in the video game industry by being a programmer and to pivot later into a game design position. But my plan didn’t work out as expected. Years later, on the verge of turning 30, I stopped trying. After reading many design books and experiencing game design failures, I almost gave up on my dream. At this time, I was working as a programmer and team leader. I had a safe job and a good salary, and that was my life when COVID hit the world: curfews, quarantines, and work-from-home were a struggle for some; instead, they gave me more free time and energy. I took advantage of this spare time to fight for my dream job once again, and I started another personal challenge: CG Spectrum’s online game design course. I was back, and it was exciting. It was the first step in the right direction. #videogames #gamedev #gamedesign #gamedesigner #lifestory"
