Nothing to see here, just Musk's team of "experts" feeding the nation's data into AI. What could go wrong? Especially if the goal is to replace a ton of government workers with AI?

"To replace the existing civil service, Musk’s allies are looking to technology. DOGE associates have been feeding vast troves of government records and databases into artificial intelligence tools, looking for unwanted federal programs and trying to determine which human work can be replaced by AI, machine-learning tools or even robots."

"As much as half the government’s nonmilitary real estate holdings are set to be liquidated, a move aimed at closing offices and increasing commute times amid sharp new limits on remote and telework. That is intended to depress workforce morale and increase attrition, according to four officials with knowledge of internal conversations at the General Services Administration, another agency taken over by Musk."

“We’ve heard from them that they want to make the buildings so crappy that people will leave,” said one senior official at GSA, which manages most federal property. “I think that’s the larger goal here, which is bring everybody back, the buildings are going to suck, their commutes are going to suck.”

In chaotic Washington blitz, Elon Musk’s ultimate goal becomes clear

Shrink government, control data and — according to one official closely watching the billionaire’s DOGE — replace “the human workforce with machines.”

@briankrebs just trying to get the most out of those licenses I'm sure. Feed it, all of it. Let's see what it does! https://fedscoop.com/congress-gets-40-chatgpt-plus-licenses/
Congress gets 40 ChatGPT Plus licenses to start experimenting with generative AI

The House of Representatives' digital service has already distributed the licenses among lawmakers' offices.

@briankrebs Weird he's not applying efficiency to the largest watermelon, and R boondoggles, such as the Military budget.

Everybody knows efficiency cuts works best on the biggest consumer.

When price is no limit, do you upgrade your HVAC or do you go after each light bulb, in a home?

edit:
maybe a sham DoD audit to happen: https://www.politico.com/news/2025/02/07/trump-musk-pentagon-education-014337

@ShrikeTron @briankrebs And we know he will never go after the military budget. In fact I would guess that Musk/Trump will propose something like doubling the military budget in addition to cutting income taxes on the top 1%. And the trained seals that are MAGA voters will gladly cheerlead for him.

@Pepperbike This is the "we can all see the military budget is a golden calf".

It's just still amazing it's so normalised to walk around the elephant in the room.

@ShrikeTron The US military budget should be cut to 10% of its current levels and the excess funds channeled into Health Care, Education Reducing energy use to address climate change and of course Scientific research. At least that would be my set of priorities.

@Pepperbike Agreed. It's sad other major countries are the model of how it **needs** balancing, but the US won't do it.

Everytime I travel out of the US to Asia, it's like stepping into the future of now. Going back to the US, the now of the past.

All because US spends more on military (ne infrastructure in other countries) than infrastructure at home. Leave it to the States to budget. 🙄

Current National Interstate wouldn't exist without previous Federal funding.

@ShrikeTron So many MAGA people like to cosplay as tough. Big ole manly man pickup Trucks, big ole guns, I'll kick your ass for lookin' at me wrong, etc. To me, the US military is the ultimate expression of that cosplay. It makes people feel strong while they get fucked over by private corporations. I feel like Musk/Trump 2.0 are sort of the "blow off top" to this Volcano. After they wreck the US both socially and economically _maybe_ we will rebuild eventually a better society.
@Pepperbike @ShrikeTron I think their plan is to rebuild the society, just not a better one, a whiter one.
@DanadasGrau @ShrikeTron agreed. I just hope that we can stop them although we are less than a month and I cannot even fathom how we make it until the 2027 election let alone 2028.
@ShrikeTron They'll "discover" that DoD is not spending enough money and use that to increase the budget. I know that is tinfoil hat conspiracy theory, but I don't trust anything from this administration.

@Pepperbike I'm in agreement something shady will be in there that'll only help their agenda.

Or it'll rebound to cut NASA even more.

@ShrikeTron or cut more from NSF and NIH.
@briankrebs
*something* can surely be replaced with automation, but that should be discussed in parliament and be decided by someone else than unelected elon musk. what the actual fuck!

@briankrebs

Iteration 3 of “X” by musk :

Iteration 1: WTF, I didn’t really think I had to buy it!

Iteration 2: I meant it all along, and it’s part of my “Everything App” empire!

Iteration 3: X App today reveals it will provide contract and consulting services to government entities, agencies, departments and organizations

@OtterlySensible EmperorM really means 卐 instead of X (formerly known as Twitter).
@briankrebs Not him, about a year ago, asking for pausing AI-development lol.
@briankrebs let them hold, the worst thing that can happen is the new AI will lock out Trump and Musk because their unpredictability.
(Irony)
@briankrebs I’ll just note, most AIs are trained on data selected by the developer. So if he built an AI for this it was trained to seek out his preferred outcomes, not optimal outcomes.

@daedalean @briankrebs

"Bias laundering machine"

@briankrebs why they saying "chaotic" its clearly staget plan how to dismantle democracy in the #usa and establish #fascist state
@briankrebs
I just want to remind everyone that the justification for giving corporations tax breaks is that corporations create jobs. Given that they're now eliminating jobs, I think we should take away all tax incentives for corporations.
@briankrebs what percentage do they have to decrease the population by to make this workable?
When does the AI decide what demographics aren’t cost effective?
@briankrebs This is getting into decidedly "Ve haff vays..." territory.
@briankrebs That's pretty fucking illegal.

@shellheim @briankrebs

yes, and? who’s going to hold any of these people to account? certainly not the hand-picked US supreme court, not the FBI, not the police (lol)

it doesn’t matter what’s legal or illegal, or constitutional or unconstitutional any more (for many powerful people, it never has) it only matters what they can get away with

@itgrrl All of his orders get stricken down today or tomorrow. He's pretending he has this power when he doesn't. Your thought process is exactly what he wants to produce.

@briankrebs IA is far from ready to replace human comon sense and reliable human judgement
@Chantaldethouars @briankrebs Trouble is, people without common sense and reliable judgement don't know that.
@briankrebs couldn’t succeed with South Africa, so he wants to make the USA the Great White Homeland, it appears.
@briankrebs The word I keep thinking is perverse. Everything they do is designed to make things worse. Most normal governments at least attempt to make things better for a good number of people, in the hope they'll gain their votes in the next election. So is this perverse method of making everything worse a sign that keeping voters on side isn't going to be an issue?
